Perhaps the blogger has his/her categories all wrong?Antoine Doinel wrote:That blog might as well be called "what middle class people like".
I made it through three entries, but the blog was too stupid and unfunny for me to continue. There are funny racial stereotypes that you can make about bourgeois crackers (like me!), but this blog doesn't have it.

Uhh, "selling out" began at its genesis.tugboat5555 wrote:OMG Juno sells out!!!!

If you weren't nuance-deprived, that was the exact point of my post. Applying any notion of "selling out" to a project like Juno or Little Miss Sunshine completely misinterprets their nature. They're "indie" films in name only. Commercial appeal was very much part of the plan and there was a truck full of cash behind both.Antoine Doinel wrote:Actually I'm just trying to see what sacred indie ideals Juno has sold out. I didn't realize the film was carrying the torch of independent filmmaking.

Wow! That's bizarre logic. I mean, apart from never thinking that I'd ever hear the adjective "brave" applied to a movie like Juno, the argument that mainstream audiences don't like feel-good movies (or movies that tell of "the beauty of life") seems like a sweeping generalization based on two Oscar contenders in one year.Antoine Doinel wrote:The Vatican hearts Juno.

Juno's decision to have the baby is completely brave when compared to the decision to abort in 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days. I mean 4,3,2 was just a silly comedy with no social conscience when compared to the deep philosophy and drama of Juno.
