It has never seen a region 1 release to my knowledge and I can only imagine the sort of sweet extras that the disc could have, such as the making of film and maybe some of Morris' lesser seen short films.
You'd think, but after Koko, there's really no guarantee that a documentary released by Criterion will have the copious extras one would expect

Any thoughts on what may be coming for January?

I would think The 400 Blows may get a Blu-Ray release in January because it is widely known and appreciated. It would be nice if we got some Godard or Malle, possibly La Notte or A Man Escaped based on the upcoming titles list. But who knows?

Well since 2008 was just so awful in many people's minds here, I guess we can only hope that it can only get better?
Oh, and if Nights of Cabiria got a re-release that would be awesome, not that it needs one, it just seems like they are re-issuing many of the titles within the first 50 spines.

Since the first 5 Blurays released were the first 5 from the list in Criterion's original announcement, El Norte and The 400 Blows should be the next two released if they follow that supposed two a month schedule.

For the SD, I'd guess:
El Norte
Magnificent Obsession
The Human Condition Trilogy (Been sometime since a boxed set)
The Fuller Rereleases or Last Year at Marienbad (I'd expect this would be a newsletter hint though)

Maybe January will be the month that Akira Kurosawa's underrated gem Dodes'Ka-den will finally get its DVD release or, better yet, Victor Sjostrom's The Phantom Chariot (I hope).[/i]

How about just the original Cabiria, which was rumored to be a forthcoming CC...

I think that began and ended with a Roger Ebert "Great Movies" essay. Someone asked Criterion and it was flat out denied. (Though, as always, who knows for sure.)

January has historically been Criterion's biggest month. How hilarious would it be to get only three titles again

I think it's too early for The Human Condition, as Janus has booked their prints into February. Vivre sa vie might come first.

hopefully great titles come out, maybe some Bergman. I kinda doubt that though...I hope they surprise us.

Question is, will they wait a month or 2 for the History Films set or release it alongside LOUIS XIV?... We'll know in the next hour...

This could be paired with Senso if they are going for a costume drama themed month.

For all those who complained about a "terrible" 2008 set of releases by Criterion, all I can say is 2009 might be even worse?

A good month for Rossellini fans. One Criterion, and one Eclipse set.

More like a good month for Criterion fans. When was the last month every title was worth buying? Did such an event even occur this year?
