Criterion & Eclipse Cover Art & Packaging Babble-on Vol.4

For me, figuring out what the April Criterions will be (and bitching about their cover art) is a secondary pursuit to discovering the Coachella lineup. Has anyone else seen that message board? Our compulsive speculation around here the middle of every month pales in comparison to that particular brand of lunacy.

a bunch of crappy new bands

Mystery solved.

Now what I really want to know is which not very impressive Depardieu movie I will be adding to my Netflix queue next, so I can make biting comments about an image I will only ever see in thumbnail form.

In the spirit of your Coachella prognosticating, here's my guesses on April:

some contemporary title everyone will complain about
a classic foreign title that everyone will say they own/is better in exiting R2 release
a classic title that everyone will say isn't worth upgrading from the existing R1
a really great title with a terrible cover and figure 8 packaging

Is it just me, or does that weird face meld on The Hit look more like Gerard Depardieu than what used to be on the Danton cover? (Yeah, alright. I should probably leave him alone.)

People will always find reasons to complain. For example, I am pissed off cause I've already bought the (otherwise great) BFI Painleve set and now the Criterion seems that will contain 12 more films! I guess I'm not the only one...

Is the In the Realm of the Senses cover a still from the film? Given the nature of the film, the white splatter on the cover makes it look like they photoshopped ejaculate over an image of her face.

I can see why they'd do it if they have marketable names. People know John Hurt, Tim Roth, etc., just like they know Owen/Luke Wilson. I don't like that they're putting them on there, but hey, at least it's not the standard three-floating-faces cover that we'd get from some other company.

3 great movies and loving the cover for "In the realms". The other two are only ok, close to boring, in my opinion. Is "In the realm" cover a hint that the movie has something to do with the weird sex act where people like to be chocked when having an orgasm to maximize it? I think the lead singer of INXS was into that.

Ah, but that's not the standard version!

It has to have at least three faces on the top-half of the screen, with the bottom half filled by some action shot. Or a landscape shot.

They've already changed the Painleve cover. Not bad, but I much prefer the simplicity of the first.
