I was expecting some sort of clock imagery, but I always kind of liked that poster. They should have licensed the Penguin Classics cover though.

Huh? Criterion is doing a two-disc DVD and a Blu-ray release.

Yeah just read it as well. That`s excellent news, since I don`t own a region A blu-ray player. A dude on a Dutch forum posted that there was only gonna be a blu-ray release. Luckily, he`s wrong :D

Hope the current cover's a temp. I would've preferred they go with the following poster as the cover.

And... cue the giggles! :)

Well, looking at the single disc artwork, the cover could've been much, much worse.

did paramount design the Button artwork and give it to Criterion or something? at the very least, they probably required the still image, the billing, and the official title design

Maybe it's a Life Aquatic situation with a slipcover hiding something more interesting.

I wonder if the Blu-ray will actually be Region A -- Criterion's BDs are, but I believe Paramount is strictly region-free. In any case, since Paramount are distributing the CC version, I bet they'll use the same extras for the European releases. That's what happened with The Life Aquatic when it came out in R2, and the CC extras for Armageddon and The Rock were ported to some R2 editions as well.

Also, responding to this in a more suitable thread:
Lemmy Caution wrote:The cover that was posted earlier is the one on the Paramount Dvd (without the border). Yes, the dvd is already out here in China. So I doubt Criterion would use the same cover design.
Take another look at the packaging -- the single-disc artwork has a critic's blurb, an Academy Awards banner along the bottom, and a background image, none of which are on the Criterion cover. It's still a lousy cover, but it's not just the single-disc artwork with a border and a wacky C. All existing DVDs are bootlegs made from the Academy screener, so I don't see how they have any bearing on what Criterion uses. Bootleggers use whatever artwork is available and that Brad/Cate two-shot was widely used in the promotional and advertising materials.

Spine # 476 - The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button has been added to the Criterion website (as well as the Blu-Ray version)

The artwork for My Dinner With André has been added as well.

Why do they always tease us so?

Edit: Also, the handwriting (or brushwork, whatever) looks SO similar to other releases like Seven Samurai, Ivan's Childhood, The Exterminating Angel (the "A film by Luis Bunuel" part), and a few others. Is there no other style of writing with a brush or calligraphy pen?

At least now we know why it took them so long to put the art up on their site. It must have taken days to get the fork and knife to cooperate with each other for the photo shoot.

I am eagerly anticipating the domino harvey Andre meltdown any second now.

Also, is it just me, or does the year of release tab say "1955"?

It's not that bad. It's actually kind of okay, if not creative.

I wouldn't call it horrible, but it's absolutely uninspired.
