It's probably a clue for Ride the Pink Horse, only Criterion got wonky with the color temperatures again

The filename is "wackyhorse_K"...hmmm....Tommaso wrote:Kurosawa was born in 1910. Can we finally get the missing early films, then?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
Yes, and that's the horse from the Kagemusha cover, so it's definitely something Kurosawa. Ran Blu-ray (if that's even still a possibility)? Something they haven't yet released?

They're coming out with 2003's Seabiscuit, whose jockey, Red Pollard, was born 100 yrs ago this October.

I think bjeggert82 nailed it. Or something.

I guess Saturnome has nailed it even better. If so, great news!

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
Probably going to be an orgy of Kurosawa in 2010: an Eclipse set of early films, a couple of Blu-ray re-releases, a gift set of his "noir" films, and maybe a new title or two in the main Criterion line.

Re bjeggert82: I thought "Ran" (blu) was out of the question now?
New titles for the main line? Not much left, unless they get "Quiet Duel" now that the existing R1 is OOP, or ...hang on.... "Dersu Uzala"??!! :-k

Totally. His list is probably better than all the previous ones combined.Matt wrote:Aww, I heart Nathan Lee and his list.

No. We all have it wrong. The horse on the cover must refer to a blu edition of Neame's The Horse's Mouth, and the "100" to the number of units they expect to sell worldwide!

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
As long as Dersu Uzala is in there somewhere, more power to them. Though watching Seven Samurai on on Blu without having to swap discs mid-film would be nice too...Matt wrote:Probably going to be an orgy of Kurosawa in 2010: an Eclipse set of early films, a couple of Blu-ray re-releases, a gift set of his "noir" films, and maybe a new title or two in the main Criterion line.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
What if it's not even a clue, but just the Kagemusha horse, on the month of its Blu release, simply wishing him a happy birthday?
Also dig the top 10, though he got the Cronenbergs in reverse order.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
I think something from Kurosawa is a safe bet. Restored "Rashomon" release is coming anyways, right? Maybe they solved the problems with Weinstein and "Ran" is also coming?

I'd rather have Manoel de Oliveira.

Ho ho, there's an original thought: someone would rather have something other than what Criterion is releasing.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
This is a bit "on the nose," but any chance this could be double clue? Perhaps something Kurosawa-related and The Red Pony http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041792/ ... Just thinking.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
Has the clue ever referred to an extra before? Maybe it's Guy Maddin's "My Dad is 100 Years Old", which could be an extra on a Rossellini release.

Who's the horse, Guy Maddin or Isabella Rossellini?

It refers to the heroin a viewer must take in order to be sedated enough to sit through a Guy Maddin film

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
It's actually spine #500 - Transformers 2 with extra scenes added where a horse transforms into a robot. Essay by Armond White.
