It's probably a clue for Ride the Pink Horse, only Criterion got wonky with the color temperatures again

Yes, and that's the horse from the Kagemusha cover, so it's definitely something Kurosawa. Ran Blu-ray (if that's even still a possibility)? Something they haven't yet released?

They're coming out with 2003's Seabiscuit, whose jockey, Red Pollard, was born 100 yrs ago this October.

Uma, aka Horse, the first film he partially directed, in a Eclipse Early Kurosawa :o

I guess Saturnome has nailed it even better. If so, great news!

Probably going to be an orgy of Kurosawa in 2010: an Eclipse set of early films, a couple of Blu-ray re-releases, a gift set of his "noir" films, and maybe a new title or two in the main Criterion line.

Re bjeggert82: I thought "Ran" (blu) was out of the question now?

New titles for the main line? Not much left, unless they get "Quiet Duel" now that the existing R1 is OOP, or ...hang on.... "Dersu Uzala"??!! :-k

Totally. His list is probably better than all the previous ones combined.

No. We all have it wrong. The horse on the cover must refer to a blu edition of Neame's The Horse's Mouth, and the "100" to the number of units they expect to sell worldwide!

As long as Dersu Uzala is in there somewhere, more power to them. Though watching Seven Samurai on on Blu without having to swap discs mid-film would be nice too...

What if it's not even a clue, but just the Kagemusha horse, on the month of its Blu release, simply wishing him a happy birthday?

Also dig the top 10, though he got the Cronenbergs in reverse order.

I think something from Kurosawa is a safe bet. Restored "Rashomon" release is coming anyways, right? Maybe they solved the problems with Weinstein and "Ran" is also coming?

I'd rather have Manoel de Oliveira.

This is a bit "on the nose," but any chance this could be double clue? Perhaps something Kurosawa-related and The Red Pony http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041792/ ... Just thinking.

Has the clue ever referred to an extra before? Maybe it's Guy Maddin's "My Dad is 100 Years Old", which could be an extra on a Rossellini release.

Who's the horse, Guy Maddin or Isabella Rossellini?

It refers to the heroin a viewer must take in order to be sedated enough to sit through a Guy Maddin film

It's actually spine #500 - Transformers 2 with extra scenes added where a horse transforms into a robot. Essay by Armond White.
