Here are the details of The Film Noir Collection, courtesy of Moviemail:
This 4-disc collection includes the classic film noir titles Fallen Angel (1945, Otto Preminger), Whirlpool (1949, Otto Preminger), Night and the City (1950, Jules Dassin) and Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950, Otto Preminger). With their combination of intrigue, moral ambiguity and stylised black and white photography, these essential noirs exemplify the very best that this much loved Hollywood genre has to offer.

Nor I. That paragraph was copied from Moviemail's blurb just for information.Yojimbo wrote:tojoed wrote: I wouldn't consider 'Whirlpool ' essential noir, and I already have the other 3

Does anyone know when the German film Sehnsucht will come out. Was due for release in August by the BFI. But now seems to have vanished from the schedule.

MichaelB, please tell me - does the BFI still own the rights to the Kuchar films? [-o<

I have absolutely no idea, I'm afraid - though as the old VHS has been out of print for years, I'm guessing not.Peacock wrote:MichaelB, please tell me - does the BFI still own the rights to the Kuchar films? [-o<

Hopefully, yes, though the penultimate paragraph of that article does cast a bit of a pall over it.perkizitore wrote:P.S. Great news =D>

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
Have the releases of Playing Away, Young Soul Rebels and Shirin been put back? Amazon is listing 9 November for the first two and no date for the third, while Play is still listing tomorrow for all three.

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
Unless a mistake was made or it was exclusive, I can confirm Shirin hasn't been delayed as mine came through the door yesterday morning (from HMV.com).

I can confirm that Shirin, Young Soul Rebels and Playing Away exist in their final form, as my copies are sitting just a few feet away from me - and I've had them for at least a week.bigP wrote:Unless a mistake was made or it was exclusive, I can confirm Shirin hasn't been delayed as mine came through the door yesterday morning (from HMV.com).

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
So can I, as the BFI sent me retail copies for review - I did wonder if the release date had slipped for some reason. Mind you, it only seems to be Amazon listing a different date to 26 October.MichaelB wrote:I can confirm that Shirin, Young Soul Rebels and Playing Away exist in their final form, as my copies are sitting just a few feet away from me - and I've had them for at least a week.bigP wrote:Unless a mistake was made or it was exclusive, I can confirm Shirin hasn't been delayed as mine came through the door yesterday morning (from HMV.com).

Same here. However, I'm still waiting on the Borzage titles which should be released on the same day this week, right?GaryC wrote:So can I, as the BFI sent me retail copies for review...MichaelB wrote:I can confirm that Shirin, Young Soul Rebels and Playing Away exist in their final form, as my copies are sitting just a few feet away from me - and I've had them for at least a week.bigP wrote:Unless a mistake was made or it was exclusive, I can confirm Shirin hasn't been delayed as mine came through the door yesterday morning (from HMV.com).

I can now confirm that the Borzage titles exist in their final physical form, as they're sitting on my desk in front of me alongside the Jacques Tati box.bamwc2 wrote:However, I'm still waiting on the Borzage titles which should be released on the same day this week, right?

Yeah, alright, patience! I'm pretty sure badgering others on this forum isn't going to make your DVD arrive any faster. It'll come...perkizitore wrote:Why do you keep ignoring my about 'The Exiles'?

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
This is probably a good opportunity to post a general reminder that while I know everyone at BFI DVD Publishing, I don't work for them myself except on an occasional freelance basis, and am not privy to internal discussions about future releases.foggy eyes wrote:Yeah, alright, patience! A few handy rules of thumb:
1. Every post in a BFI thread triggers an automatic email alert - so I will definitely read it the first time. Constant badgering is pointless, and duplicating said badgering via PM is annoying to the point where I generally delete such messages unread;
2. If I don't reply to a question within hours, you can safely assume that I don't know the answer;
3. If a BFI release (or alleged release) doesn't have a separate thread reproducing a press release (which I usually try to post within seconds of receipt), you can be reasonably sure that the actual release is at least three weeks away;
4. Amazon is not a reliable guide to release dates!
