Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
On the same note: can we expect Asquith's Underground and Reiniger's second set of shorts to be released this year?

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
Hope this is in the works as a blu. From BFI news A restored version of 'The Great White Silence' the official story of Scott's expedition plays the LFF with live accompaniment from Simon Fisher Turner (of a.o Jarman fame) and playing with him is the very wonderful David Coulter

Free BFI DVD with this weekend's Observer. Entitled Beginnings it will contain five BFI produced short films from British directors: Ken Russell's Amelia and the Angel, Ridley Scott's Boy and Bicycle, Stephen Frears' The Burning, Gurinder Chadha's I'm British But... and Shane Meadows' Where's the Money Ronnie?.

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
Will all future Flipside releases be dual format? The identical content of the BRONCO BULLFROG discs seems to imply this. Does anyone know whether this is the case?

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
The last four Flipside releases (The Pleasure Girls, The Party's Over, Bronco Bullfrog, Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush) have all been Dual Format, and my understanding is that this is going to continue indefinitely.

MovieMail has just launched a big BFI sale, with prices starting at £6.49 and even the four-disc Terence Davies box going for just £15.49.

As I've just confirmed in its own dedicated thread, this will indeed be getting a Dual Format release next May.NABOB OF NOWHERE wrote:Hope this is in the works as a blu. I wonder if there is any chance of the BFI releasing BS Johnson's film and TV output on a BD. Having been featured theatrically, can I hold out any hope?

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
It would be nice to see more funding going to experimental projects, as was the case in the 80s/90s, but somehow that seems unlikely under this new regime, which sounds like an attempt to turn the BFI into a replica of the commercially-minded UK Film Council. The fact that Dyke issues a statement ending with the leaden managerial phrase 'going forward' seems indicative of this direction.ellipsis7 wrote:It comes a full circle for the BFI it seems...

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
Great news! Six Little Jungle Boys appeared on the Joy of Sex Education set, and I was looking forward to more of their films turning up after a tantalising mention in the booklet of some of their other works. I'm not too sure how many films there are (is this imdb list correct?) but I guess that there may be a collection of the shorts released together in the style of the Lotte Reiniger or Jan Svankmajer along with a separate release of Animal Farm (maybe with the film being brought out on Blu!)

But do shop around. Out of the three titles I tossed into my cart, two of them were cheaper at Amazon (e.g. The Leopard Blu for 10.93).MichaelB wrote:MovieMail are offering huge discounts on BFI titles for one week only.

Cuts, cuts... everywhere cuts...
So on a brighter note: dear BFI, do you have any plans to restore and release "Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?" on DVD?
And yes, that film is as wild as the title suggests

Re: BFI (British Film Institute)
It was shown last year at the BFI as part of 'the flipside'. So it wouldn't surprise me if it's in their sights for a future flipside release. Rights allowing of course.nolanoe wrote:dear BFI, do you have any plans to restore and release "Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?" on DVD?
