This is quite sad. Mars was one of the great comic character actors of his generation, a worthy successor to the likes of Franklin Pangborn, William Demarest or Jack Norton from 30 years earlier. Despite often going over-the-top, he was always lovable.

His delivery on the whole "I am Hugh" bit from WHAT'S UP. DOC? is golden.

There's a blast from the past, I used to watch "Marker" regularly in the 70s. I had forgotten the series was called Public Eye, but I always remembered his character's name. Not a bad innings at 92.

I had no clue that he shot so many of the films I saw as a kid. Forgot that he was DP on Point Break, too. RIP.

Ouch, that hits close to home. One little piece of my Doctor Who memories passing on, sadly. I'm particularly fond of his interactions with Baker as I thought the Brigadier was an amusing foil to that Doctor. I had no clue he was still around. RIP.

Edit: Tom Baker gives his regards.

Arnost Lustig (whose novel Darkness Casts No Shadows provided the source for Nemec's Diamonds of the Night).

...which he later said was the best screen adaptation of any of his works, despite it departing more radically from the text than any of the others. For starters, the novel has dialogue on almost every page, but the film has so little that its subtitles must barely scrape double figures.

Goodbye to one of the great sex symbols of classic Hollywood. Who could ever forget her "Anyone Here for Love?" number from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes? Rest in peace, lovely lady.

Meet Me In St. Louis is one of the very few studio era musicals that I really like. Those two songs are a major reason why.
