Re: Criterion Facebook Page
Since they asked via FB and Twitter, I'm half tempted to let Criterion know that I ordered in-stock and pre-order items. Maybe they won't cancel if enough of us let them know we could get discounts on pre-order items?

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
They already know. They all read this forum (Hi, Peter. Hi, Jon.). That's probably what brought the issue to their attention in the first place. Sorry mfunk, et. al.Jean-Luc Garbo wrote:Since they asked via FB and Twitter, I'm half tempted to let Criterion know that I ordered in-stock and pre-order items. Yeah, also, it's not like you set up one of those top secret Office Space/Superman 3 accounts that gives you all the leftover fractions of preordered DVDs. They can clearly see your order on their system.
Hopefully this is one of those "your reward for finding my $100 is you get to keep the $100" situations. [-o<Jeff wrote:That's probably what brought the issue to their attention in the first place.

No, your reward is that they tricked you in to buying Fat Girl by allowing you to find it for $16.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
I played it honest because I didn't want to inadvertently get my whole order canceled and it really was a good deal on their part without taking advantage of preorders [/boyscout]

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
I placed two separate orders, making sure to place all of my pre-orders on a completely separate order from the available titles, so that if they do cancel pre-orders it won't affect the others.domino harvey wrote:I played it honest because I didn't want to inadvertently get my whole order canceled and it really was a good deal on their part without taking advantage of preorders [/boyscout]
I almost went the boyscout route myself, but I flicked that little Jiminy Cricket fucker off my shoulder and decided to leave the decision to fate and Criterion. They are good people and I don't want to take advantage, but I figure I'm getting the discs at cost at best, and since I've dumped at least ten grand into the Criterion coffers over the last decade I didn't feel too guilty about it.[/shamelessrationalization]

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
Apparently neither of you got your capitalism merit badge. In any case, nothing's scheduled to ship until May, and I was never going to pay more than 50% MSRP for those preorders anyway, so I don't even really feel as though I've taken advanta--SHUT UP JIMINY CRICKET I WILL MURDER YOU

Didn't the FB page state from the very beginning that the 50% only applied to in-stock items? Or did I miss something?

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
It did indeed, but due to some sort of oversight, the code worked for a brief period of time on pre-orders anyway.Zinoviev wrote:Didn't the FB page state from the very beginning that the 50% only applied to in-stock items? Or did I miss something?

Have you seen any Sacha Guitry before, Domino? I'd be interested to hear what you think of him. I think he would be right up your street.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
I had to behave so I pre-ordered Diabolique, Topsy-Turvy, and Pale Flower (of course) but also finally went after Hands Over the City and The River. (One of the pre-orders will likely be a great gift for a friend.) I really should have bought a coffee mug to go with the Leigh, though.
I'd also like to read domino's thoughts on Guitry. His knowledge of film comedy should make it worthwhile.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
I had passing familiarity before Criterion announced the set but haven't seen any of his films. I read somewhere (maybe here) that there was a strong kinship to Mankiewicz, and that was enough to tip me over-- I'll be sure to post my thoughts on the pics as I work my way through the set

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
The best part are all of the Facebook wall posts about this: "Oh my god, what a great place that must be to work," "what an awesome job," etc. Like the person who has to physically pack all of these orders and probably gets paid a few bucks above minimum wage thinks that they are working in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory or something.

^ Or doing that little cut on the spine of plastic cases. Don't know if others get that. Looks like someone puts a kinfe to the spine on some of them.

Re: Criterion Facebook Page
That's a surefire sign that boxes of DVDs were opened with boxcutters in the warehouse.
