Was this ever film ever in a normal keepcase or was it always a snapper? The picture on Amazon is a keepcase.

When I bought it a year and a half ago and it was still a snapper. I don't think the Amazon image is an actual cover because there's no DVD logo in the bottom left hand corner.

My guess, as comparatively very few Fox titles go OOP, and as far as I know, none in their Cinema Classics line like this have. But better safe than sorry (I already picked it up a while ago-- it's good! Even if you do have to sort of squint to accept Joan Fontaine in the role)

All the Miramax stuff is now OOP, so if there is any title you are concerned about being re-released in a lesser quality version (or being re-released at all) by Lionsgate or Echo Bridge, buy now.

I wonder if Miramax has rights in perpetuity for Belle de Jour, The Young Girls of Rochefort, and Purple Noon, or if those will eventually expire. I can't imagine that Lionsgate or Echo Bridge will be showing any interest in them any time soon.

I also wouldn't be surprised if this is the last time we see the two Scorsese documentaries about cinema for a while.

There was some debate if Princess Mononoke was owned by Miramax or Disney. The disc being discontinued pretty much answers that question.

I still think there might be a chance Criterion might have picked up the smaller art house and foreign language titles. Echo Bridge seem to have went after the tv shows and genre titles. Lionsgate seems to only be interested in the big guns (and probably only licensed the big sellers).

I'm sure someone like Kino, Image, or Criterion will pick up the tab on stuff like Ball of Fire and The Colours Trilogy. The smaller or more oddball stuff like the Scorsese docs or Best of Youth is where I'd put my worrying money.

Belle de Jour was released on Blu by Studio Canal in Europe. Does this mean that edition may finally see a Region 1 release? The transfer was infinitely superior to the Mirimax one.

That would be a true shame. These are essential (even if the Italian one is spoiler-ific). When I'm sick, listening to Scorsese talk about old movies is like medicine.

I'm surprised that we haven't heard any new Scorsese commentaries. His last few films (including his music documentaries) had none, but maybe he's too busy with Film Foundation, I don't know. Has the "Scorsese on Imamura" documentary not been released anywhere? I only have that on DVD-R....
