I scanned through the Angel DVD. I didn't hunt down that very frame, but there's a piece of architecture that EXACTLY matches. If it's not Jalsaghar, it's something filmed at the same estate.

This movie is not part of any of the AE boxsets... So no worries. Actually more hope for other Ray films in HD for the future

mteller is right, it is definitely Jalsaghar/The Music Room. I was thrown off on looking through my recorded from television VHS copy until I realised that the above is a blown up segment from a significant shot at the turning point of the film:

ahh, I've only seen it in the theatre, but I was going to chime in that it's 1.33:1 so the screenshot doesn't match, so a blow up makes sense. sneaky bastards.

Nice work, Colin!

I'll be happy to finally get up to speed on Ray. The entirety of Indian parallel cinema is a complete blind spot for me. I've only ever seen Pather Panchali, and that was at a college repertory screening when I was all of 19 years old and very, very green in my appreciation of cinema.

Tom, were you aware that MoC is selling off their last remaining copies of Abhijan? It might be now or never on that one.

I'd never get a brand tattoo, but I do think about naming hypothetical children things like "Criterion Collection" and "Colgate"

I'm going to be conservative and predict that this portends a Blu-ray release of the entire L' trilogy.

Goddamnit, if it's L'Avventura that will be my third Antonioni blu, and I don't even like Antonioni.

Necessary disclaimer: they've posted a number of memorabilia-type photos of various cool things on Facebook that have not necessarily portended the release of films related to said various cool things.

Edit: what swo said.
