Honestly, the biggest problem with Facebook in general is that, unlike in the setting of a forum, if anything of any substance is stated there, it's completely lost within a couple of days. (Just for a laugh, imagine someone posting something on Facebook akin to zedz' Chronicles of Kluge.) This encourages the type of inane banter that's become de rigueur there. Which is fine if you just want to tell your close circle of friends something cute your cat did today, but if you're Criterion, why even bother giving a detailed response about anything if most people will have forgotten about it in a week.

I'm hardly alone in my negative opinion of TF, and believe I clearly explained the multiple issues I had with it. Beyond that, I never said it was THE worst movie i've ever seen. That would be silly. Because Crash is clearly the worst movie ever made.

Furthermore, I did not and will not go on facebook and say "HOW DARE YOU CRITERION!!??!?!?! THIS IS THE WORST MOVIE EVER MADE!!!?!?!" And then proceed to argue with facebook people and not really back up that opinion with anything deeper than "it sucks." That would also be silly. Unless they released Crash.

My point was that you were making fun of someone for getting over angry at criterion for releasing a film he did not like, but you and others (including myself) have done the very same thing on numerous occasions on this very forum with TF only being a more noteworthy and recent example. I wasn't referring to the circumstances surrounding the films, their releases, or comments on them beyond the how dare you criterion aspect.

I don't see the big deal about the posts on the fb page. A lot of the fans aren't knowledgeable about distribution rights and post requests only because they'd love to see whatever favorite film of theirs in the collection. It's true that many requests are unreasonable, a film may already have a splendid release or Criterion won't be able to obtain the rights, but it's a fan page on facebook and it being home to a bunch of posters who regularly request that film X get released shouldn't come as a surprise. Criterion may have stopped responding to each release suggestion, but that seemed inevitable given the popularity of their label and how many fans' posts would have to be answered each day. Personally, I'm just glad that their page is so popular and that every so often they sneak in a hint about a possible release. The vitriol against some fb posters certainly seems to be unfounded.

You'll have to remember that Criterion's fb page has 50,000 likes from people with varying degrees of film knowledge. This forum is mostly full of people who know about all the different types of films/companies and distribution rights where someone commenting on the fb page could only know Criterion from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I don't know how many people have accounts here but say it's 3000; the fb page has a much larger pool of people.(who can comment/troll without consequence)
So I don't believe you can lump everyone who posts on the Criterion fb wall into one category. There is quite a bit of good discussion there.
