The Master (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2012)

#1 Post by mfunk9786 »

Joaquin Phoenix to costar in The Master, which now will probably happen before Inherent Vice (the script of which is Pynchon-approved), meaning we're going to have a huge couple of years of PTA goodness.

Paul Thomas Anderson, Joaquin Phoenix, and Philip Seymour Hoffman? Let's get this moving finally.

I really want this movie to happen. And I really want the Amy Adams and Laura Dern rumors to be confirmed. And I don't want Anderson to drag his feet between this and his next film.

Amy Adams also confirmed for new PTA film

I'm going to just assume that the first line of that article is a shoutout to the Eddie Haskell of our dear forum. It just has to be.

Plus Jesse Plemons as Hoffman's son, thus soothing my need to see Friday Night Lights alumni in major motion pictures.

Has there been any confirmation if Anderson's "The Master" will be shot on 65mm or not? There was a rumor few months ago and IMDb lists it as 65mm.

I really hope Anderson's film explores Hubbard's relationship with Jack Parsons.

IMDb has now listed Jasmine Woods as a cast member in The Master. Never heard of her...

We should totally have a dedicated thread for the new Untitled PTA Project (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2013) by now.

I doubt it will be released in 2013. Production starts next week and unless the post-production is significantly longer than it was for There Will Be Blood, it should be released in Q4 2012.

I'm just going on what has been reported (that it'll be a 2013 release). I have an inkling that this and Inherent Vice are going to be shot back-to-back, followed by marathon post-production.

Who's the DP in the new PTA flick? I've heard it wasn't going to be Robert Elswit, who shot all his previous films, and I would be kind of bummed if it's true because I think Elswit is such a big cog in how special PTA's films are.

On the other hand, it would be neat to see him work with someone else. Just to see what happens.

Mihai Malaimare, Jr. If anyone's seen the last two Coppola films, you saw why I'm very happy with this choice if it can't be Elswit. The film will be shot on 65mm. Also, apparently Elswit is just booked solid, there's no falling out.

IMDb listed two cast members for uncredited roles, still no word on who plays Elizabeth, the 19-year-old daughter. :|

Seems like it might be Madisen Beaty.

She's way too young for the role (she's 16). As far as I know, Elizabeth is 19-23 years old in the film, plus an early draft of the script had nudity for her role. IMDb trivia says that last year Amanda Seyfried, Deborah Ann Woll and Emma Stone were considered for the role. They're respectively 8, 9 and 6 years older than Madisen Beaty. I think Beaty could be a younger sister of Elizabeth or something like that.

So what? Paul Dano was about 20 years too young to play his character aged 20 years in TWBB.

And it totally didn't matter.

By the way, obnoxious note to whomever made the thread-split - the film is actually untitled right now.
