It doesn't really matter at this point, but just because rightpricedvd is showing up on the main screen does NOT mean that amazon isn't selling it. If you click on "New" and scroll down, you will see that Amazon.com is, in fact, still selling almost everything directly. In fact, they now have Alphaville listed as in stock as well.

The way amazon currently works is that they list the lowest-priced, new DVD that Amazon will fulfill on the main page, even if Amazon itself has the item in stock for a higher price.

I think it's fairly clear. I go to the "10 used from $4.95" button, scroll down the list, and choose the one I want. The middle column is the store name.

Mea culpa. I wouldn't have bothered posting if Drucker wasn't off the mark in the first place. I mean, Woman is a Woman going for $82 is obviously not Amazon.

Not only is it confusing that Amazon's listing third-party sellers as if it's themselves, they're also listing the sellers on the main page even when Amazon offers the item and making you scroll down a second page to find their own listing. You'd think they'd want to move their own product more. It's as if they see themselves and the fulfilled sellers as the same thing.

It matters regarding the board, because Amazon having multiple copies of OOP titles in stock is newsworthy, while we all know AM sellers have been listing new copies all along. Only when a seller is offering it for the same price or less does the distinction not matter much to someone in the market for a title.

I believe it has to do now with third-party sellers being included in the Amazon Prime deal. If the seller has Amazon Prime shipping, the items they sell will be listed similar to the ones Amazon sell themselves.

You can pay Amazon to store and fulfill your items for you. Amazon gets paid by the cubic foot, gets paid a picking/packing fee, pays less for mailing than you do, and pays nothing for the products of yours that it's selling. They make about 22% of the listing price on your DVD sale. As a bonus to you, your potential customers can qualify for regular free or Prime shipping.

If you pay for "Fulfillment by Amazon," you get listed on the main page if your price is lower than theirs.

They were available separately, but most have been deleted. Only the three former Criterions and Lifeboat are still in print. I know The Lodger is particularly hard to find now, and Sabotage is starting to show up with higher and higher prices. A pity because I believe these are the best R1 versions so far of the British films included.

It's certainly the best purchase you can make this year. It's cheaper and with higher quality packaging than those Fox sets with about the same level of effort put into the transfers. Not to mention that most of the films are great.

About a year ago Costco had them for about $23, so I decided that was cheap enough to risk it. I went through 3 or 4 boxes (returning all but one) in an attempt to assemble one complete set without problems. I never did find one with a copy of Notorious that would play (they all had visibly cloudy sections of the disk, and all froze within a couple minutes one way or the other from the wine cellar scene). I finally gave up, accepted that price for the box set without Notorious, and bought a separate copy of that one movie.

Yeah, I heard about that problem and remember that Gary refused to review the set until the problem was fixed. However, I decided to give it a try during a B & N sale a few years back. I lucked out. All discs were in perfect shape on the first try.
