I wouldn't have thought there'd be much point doing it unless they can source high-quality materials of the full version - the original DVD was notoriously compromised.

Does anyone know what's happening with Olympia - BFI Film Classics book? It's been out-of-print for a while but has showed up on Amazon recently in the new white cover. It also says "Second Edition" on the cover, which would be a first for this line of books I think. It has double the page count of the first edition so it seems to be a hefty update.

I'm guessing I'm hoping for too much to wish for a decent DVD/Blu-ray of this from the BFI?

Mark Kermode's book on The Exorcist got a second edition too. Admittedly that was part of the 'Modern Classics' range, but BFI Publishing no longer differentiate between the different 'Classics' (other than TV of course).

I read the Downing book when it was first published. An excellent read and still, to my mind, one of the very best in the range.

Jean Vigo's "L'atalante", re-submitted by BFI? So does this mean BFI will re-issue the Artificial Eye set?

I saw that... At present it's only L'ATALANTE, and the BBFC has so far passed it for theatrical only... However the AE set does appear OOP, and BFI could port in the CC HD masters for a dual format set relatively easily, I would think....

I hope they go the whole hog in that case then and port the whole thing.

Why?
I hope the BFI has some unique on-disk extras, perhaps fewer, as it stands there's quite a lot of info compressed onto one disk with the Criterion, so personally I'd double dip for L'Atalante with a high bitrate...

Theatrical distribution by the BFI doesn't always guarantee a later DVD/Blu-ray. Others this year have included Les Diaboliques, Days of Heaven, An American in Paris and Pirates of the Caribbean 4...

Because I'm not greedy enough to hope that it will be bettered! The Crit looks a wonderful package and it's on my to-buy list. I'd defintely buy the BFI if it was very similar but I'd go for the Criterion eventually instead if they only released the one film.

So, £128 for 20 means only £6.4 per title! Very good deal, but I own most of the titles I want already...

Yeh, I only want 6 titles (and 3 of those are the upcoming Pasolini duals). I guess I could sell on the other 14 and break even.

It's a strange offer though as you'd be presume that most people who'd be interested already own a heck of a lot of them.

It is a bit odd. It's one of those deals that I'm trying to justify adding films I don't particularly want just to take advantage of the ones I do want making the whole saving money element null and void. I have about 9 that I do want at the moment (including the upcoming Pasolini's which I guess are included in the offer) and most of those are double-dips. Pretty tantalising though...

Is anybody else finding it difficult to ascertain which titles are actually valid in this offer? The BFI front page shows an image of the Pasolini Decameron dual but if you go to the list of duals that is not shown. If you follow the front page link you get pro-bassoonists page with the next batch of flipsides showing but no Pasolinis!! Guess i'll interrogate the operative when they ring me unless someone can jump in with some definitive knowledge

i'm thinking that 10 rather than 20 might have been a better idea on this one

I assumed the offer applied to any Blu-ray and Dual-format edition that's still in print and currently available (i.e. not including Medea and other future titles).

Not exactly, since Medea is listed as valid (albeit forthcoming) but not the other Pasolinis despite being shown on the front page link that you gave. Then there's the issue of the BFI page itself linking to Pro-B's page with no dual Pasolinis but showing the forthcoming Flipsides( Hell and Nightbirds).

The Trilogy Of Life Dual Formats ARE included, but not Medea (because it's a new title according to the BFI) or any other upcoming titles.

I'd be interested in a group buy and split the 20 with people - provided the Pasolini's were eligible as is suggested by the link. Whoever wants the biggest chunk takes the order and the others Paypal their proportion of the money on - plus whatever it will take to send the Blurays on to you.

Right, OK... (do they want our money or not?)

So why the BFI link to pro-B's list without the Pasolini trilogy or Medea AND WITH THE NEW FLIPSIDES
http://forum.blu-ray.com/united-kingdom ... hread.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and Medea being shown as available on the offer on the other listing of Duals BUT NO PASOLINI TRILOGY?
http://filmstore.bfi.org.uk/acatalog/co ... Italy.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And I reiterate. These are links on the BFI offer page.

I think the blu-ray forum link was convenient, because they did not have to create a page themselves. My understanding is that all the upcoming titles are NOT included, with the exception of The Trilogy Of Life Dual Formats as stated by the BFI on their Facebook page.

OK, just to make things absolutely clear.

The offer applies to all Blu-rays and Dual Format releases that are available now - so excluding Medea, A Bigger Splash, Her Private Hell, Nightbirds and any other forthcoming titles.

But this does include the dual-format Pasolini Trilogy of Life, since it's a reissue of a previous release.

Misleading does not make for "convenient".
