That's suspiciously similar to Armond's review.

But with no comparisons to Ernst Lubitsch.

Agreed, especially because Ignatiy doesn't write reviews elsewhere aside from the occasional critical essay.

I would assume he would just return to his blog (though I'm sure, given his now more highly established profile, he can secure writing gigs elsewhere).

Well, hopefully the blog doesn't only come back, but he chooses to write reviews of new releases. I doubt it.

I actually write several pieces a week (for example, this short review of The Turin Horse appears in today's Chicago Reader) -- it's just that my output for Mubi (which is phasing out reviews in favor of essays) has slowed down a bit in the months since the show started. As for the blog, it's always served as a sort of public notebook more than anything else.

You're always welcome to write here, you know. We won't pay you, but we are the best place on the internet. :-"

But how am I suppose to insult this guy's opinions when he's staring right at me? It's uncivilized, I tell ya!

Dude, it's called Google Alerts. Anytime anybody insults me on a message board, on Twitter, or on a blog, I see it. The Internet makes Santa out of everyone.

Our bad, we usually only make our catty comments in the ungooglable "Ignatiy Vishnevetsky Suxforlifey" subforum

In case you can't tell, Ignatiy, one of the things we are really good at here is sucking up to celebrities.

Just to refresh some memories:
Donald Brown wrote:What do you find excellent about that blog? It offers nothing unexpected and only reinforces my low opinion of Vishnevetsky.
Donald Brown wrote:Just what are Vishnevetsky's qualifications? Based on his reviews at Mubi, he doesn't seem to be particularly knowledgeable or discerning. Then again, he can't be worse than Roeper was.
Donald Brown has called me a "stupid monkey" for liking The Wonder Years, so you got it somewhat easy, Ignatiy.
