I watched the first trailer back when it was released and still had no idea Peter Berg was directing, but Riggins and Landry should have been a dead giveaway in retrospect

Well, at least you can't deny they've captured the spirit of the game.

The What To Expect When You're Expecting trailer. With this and New Year's Eve, Love Actually is looking better by the minute.

All I meant was that the trouble with bringing BattleshipTM to the big screen has always been the fact that, to do it right, it would have to be the most expensive film ever made. Thankfully, Hollywood has finally amassed enough money to do just that.

Maybe that low sound throughout the trailer isn't just leftover ADR from Transformers but is actually what A-4, A-5, A-6 sounds like in real-life

The Battleship trailer was sorely lacking in Liam Neeson, upon watching his ships being destroying, saying, "You sunk my battleship."

This easily surpasses Indy IV as the most superfluous big-budget sequel ever, doesn't it? Not to mention very possibly ill-fated. The last one was 10 years ago, for crying out loud, and felt wholly unnecessary the way it was. I wouldn't be all that surprised if that ship has sailed.

Was the first one even that big of a hit? All I can remember of it is that idiotic Will Smith music video where he does the thriller dance with aliens that MTV broadcast at least twice an hour back in the late '90s. That and Sisqo's Thong Song. What horrible memories.

I for some reason saw it three times during the first two days of its opening weekend, though this may have been anomaly.

It has the uh, distinction of being the first VHS I ever bought with my allowance money. It certainly was a huge hit among area pre-teens at the time.

The first one was a huge hit, $250 million domestically. But no, in no way is a third film in the series necessary. The second film cost $50 million more than the first and made $60 million less. This one will probably cost $200 million and struggle to break $100 at the US box office.

I liked the way that the annoying heavenly choirs, explosions and metallic noises were drowned out by a tinnitus sound near to the end of the trailer, or maybe that was just me.

I did also like the "From Hasbro, the company that brought you Transformers" tagline!

I don't know, Battleship looks as perfectly generic as any other big dumb box office smash. I can't see why it won't be equally huge. It's going to be drilled into everybody that they must see it the opening weekend, and after that, as long as the explosions are big enough, it will surely coast to profitability. What am I missing?

I know that we've already exhausted all the board game movie jokes on the forum (twice) since Milton Bradley made their announcement. Still, I'm hoping for an adaptation of Connect Four solely for the reason that I want to see a dramatic reading of the line "Pretty sneaky, Sis" in the trailer.

Ideally, the brother and sister should be played by real-life siblings like the Gyllenhaals or Cusacks. Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan would be okay too. The plot would have something to do with the siblings competing to buy up four adjacent parcels of land in a small town and thus win their parents estate and control of the town. Unfortunately, Sis is evil or something.

You're welcome, Hollywood.

I imagine the set-piece being similar to the chess game in The Seventh Seal, complete with Ingmar's penchant for profile shots. Isn't there an Animaniacs episode like this, where Wacko dies in a swedish meatball eating contest and the Yakko and Dot have to beat the grim reaper at chess to save him? I could be imagining this. Oh, here it is.

No no no, anytime he's near water his line must always be (ever and anon), "Release the Kraken!"

Well yeah, but I don't see how that's intrinsically dumber / less commercially viable than the Transformers movies. Or Green Lantern. Or any number of other creatively bankrupt, wildly successful Hollywood shell games.
