The costume is very similar to the drawing, but I don't get the foot thing? (alright, I haven't seen The Gold Rush in a while)

I am also happy to report that the chicken has 1,925 feathers on it, as opposed to 1,942, signifying that Criterion will be releasing the original silent version.

Expecting some Hellman, but not that one. Though I'd be thrilled by a Criterion Blu, there have been two region one editions with commentary already.
Gotta be The Gold Rush.

"They're all chickens. The rooster has sex with all of them."
"That's perverse."
Thanks for allowing me to quote two different Seinfeld episodes in one post.

In the spirit of making wrong guesses:
Chicken + Broken Foot = Rear Window, because Jimmy Stewart has a broken leg and is kind of a chicken for not going over to the neighbor's house sooner...?

This might be a stretch, but the right foot is bandaged, meaning only the left foot is good. Hint for a possible release for My Left Foot?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
I wonder if it's Rear Window, since Stewart's leg is broken and it's a Hitchcock film?
My wife's going to be kinda pissed if The Gold Rush is the next Chaplin, since I convinced her to sell her old WB/MK2 DVD on the grounds that the Criterion was imminent. Even though she got a good price for it, I think she misses it and suspects that I led her astray for a quick profit. And at the rate Criterion's going, the next Chaplin after The Gold Rush won't be released until May, 2014.

Interesting note: Rear Window is conspicuously absent from the 2012 Universal Blu-ray slate, despite the fact that The Birds and Vertigo are coming. Judging from the Legacy editions that came out a couple years back, Rear Window is in the top three Hitchcocks in Universal's canon - so why would it be ignored when The Birds is being boxed with Psycho and Vertigo?

OMG, it's Pink Flamingos! The chicken in that movie got pretty banged up! 8-[
Actually, that still of Chaplin in the chicken costume has pretty much convinced me. I haven't watched The Gold Rush in a looong time, so I don't even remember his foot bandaged, but that sounds right. I really hope they get around to City Lights sooner rather than later.

Well given that Gold Rush is on Janus' list for playing theaters (dec - march), it's safe to say that it'll be the next Chaplin. the question is only when.

Assuming you're referring to this, it sounds like there was some guesswork involved. I believe Vertigo and Rear Window have always gotten simultaneous releases, going back to when they were rereleased in theaters in the early eighties, and just a 3-disc box doesn't seem as likely, so I'd be quite surprised if Rear Window isn't part of this release. I wish you were right, because based on what those Legacy editions went for the first few years, the Universal Blus aren't going to be much cheaper than a Criterion during a half-off sale.baguettes wrote:Blu-ray Alfred Hitchcock set (9/4): Not certain, but thinking this will contain The Birds, Psycho, and Vertigo

If it is 'The Gold Rush', is it likely Criterion will be able to include both cuts of the film plus the extras from the MK2/WB DVD?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 2)
Extremely, judging by the other Criterions and the fact that Janus is screening the silent Gold Rush currently (right?). Although then I'm a bit confused; the European Blus don't include the silent cut in HD right? So are Criterion creating their own master...? (I hope so, as personally I think almost all the Chaplin MK2 Blus so far are very average).abintra wrote:If it is 'The Gold Rush', is it likely Criterion will be able to include both cuts of the film plus the extras from the MK2/WB DVD?
I wonder if the delay in Chaplin releases is partly due to MK2 not having restored anymore in a year so Criterion is preferring to spread the releases out themselves so that they don't reach a stage where they have to wait 2 years to release the other major titles... I mean there hasn't been a new Blu since The Circus in 2010 right? Leaving Limelight, Verdoux, Woman of Paris and others still to be done...
