RIP. Kill Napster, see Megaupload and others start up, kill Megaupload, see something else spring up. I thought the feds would learn this by now.

Except that wasn't Megaupload mostly used for legitimate purposes? My wife used it frequently for her work, for instance.

Aren't there a lot of very similar sites? I don't understand this one being targeted in particular.

Fantastic! I had over 100 gigs up there, nearly all of it used for nothing more than personal storage. While I had physical back-ups for most of it, there were still many things I never got around to hard-backing up. I'm hoping it'll be back: the site is based out of Hong Kong, it was only a Virginia-based server that was knocked out. What'll remain is the question.

I don't mean to be the one to say something cold, but that's kind of like keeping your furniture in the dump until you need it again

Actually, I've had enough backup harddrives crash on me that, up until now, I've been more comfortable knowing my stuff is backed up online. If Google Docs were somehow taken down as well, I'd lose a lot of personal info.

The only reason I started using it because I was temporarily out of physical storage space. Once I got some, it wasn't exactly feasible or possible to re-download it all at once. Even then, I kept using it, since I liked the idea of having an online source if I ever needed to retrieve a file from afar, or, as swo mentioned, I've had backup drives die on me.

I'm not crying over it. I'm angry at the action itself, but nothing there was irreplaceable. It's going to be hell on my bandwidth (and ratio ;)) to do so, however.

Tell Mama is still one of the most electrifying R&B Records of all time. I know she had lots of struggles with substances, but she really never got the respect she deserved (when compared to some of her peers, at least). One of the greats.

You? To be honest I thought she had died a long time ago, like in the '80s so good for her for living as long as she did.

73 = not even average life expectancy, though.
She was very sick, so at least she didn't have to linger for a long time. Two people in my life have died of cancer in the past week and a half, so thoughts about all this have been a little inescapable lately.

Indeed this hits hard, seems like all my favourites are dying. Was just listening her chess singles collection earlier this week...(Speaking of chess singles, anyone who loves Etta's music must also check out Mitty Collier, collection on Ace Records is ESSENTIAL.)

Mind you, on balance he was probably right not to give up the day job.
