Barry Unsworth, joint winner of the 1992 Booker Prize (with Michael Ondaatje's The English Patient). His novels Pascali's Island and Morality Play were filmed in 1988 and 2003 respectively, the latter under the title The Reckoning.

Frank Cady. The article mentions Petticoat Junction and Green Acres, but he was also in Ace In The Hole and When Worlds Collide.

People should probably track down the Huell Howser interview/meet&greet with both Ann Rutherford and Anne Jeffreys

Well, apropos of Domino's comment, I was about to post that Scott Johnson, a Radiohead roadie, was crushed by the stage on Saturday night

Susan Tyrrell - can't find an obituary link yet, but Wikipedia claims that she died yesterday.

*cringes*

She was absolutely brilliant in Fat City, and its unfortunate she never had a greater career. Fortunately, she didn't seem the type to particularly want to play the Hollywood game, and she compensated by some more than colorful character turns in more than adventurous movies (Forbidden Zone, Flesh + Blood, Andy Warhol's Bad). She didn't seem to be doing all that great since losing her legs, so I guess it's not surprising, but still a loss for a completely untamed (and too little used) talent.

Huh, and Fat City is on Turner Classic Movies RIGHT NOW. Good thing I'm recording it. I've never seen it before, but I've heard great things about her performance.

It's a little known gem that I've talked up frequently since finally seeing it a few years ago.

Andrew Sarris. Devastated. Such an important mind and writer, and a huge personal influence.

Sarris is a great loss. His philosophies and insights shaped who I was as a filmgoer long before I started reading him thanks to the many critics and filmmakers who he influenced and in turn influenced me.

Andrew Sarris (alongside John Simon) got me into reading and enjoying film criticism. When I was reading nothing but those two, they felt like a great balance to each other. It was Sarris whose thoughtfulness and analytical insight impressed me the most so, yeah, this one hurts. I feel awful for Haskell.

I'm in a similar situation to the above. Wouldn't feel half as knowledgeable without him.
