Jan. 29? I would've thought the gift-buying season (of the 1%) would be the main reason for sets like those to exist.

Doesn't come as a surprise but the press release also states that The Jazz Singer and all three James Dean films will be released on Blu-Ray in 2013.

The Jazz Singer on Blu?

Hopefully, "You ain't heard nothin' yet!" will translate to "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" in terms of visual quality.

Not interested in The Jazz Singer at all, but I do hope it will include all of the bonus shorts and supplements from the DVD release (in HD?!). It's a great educational set.

I know Warner Brothers is trying to get a wide range of years represented in the set but some of those alleged selections are laughable (Inception). Just my two cents - I don't care for the film.

Every single one of those films is either a bonafide A-list classic that is an "Evergreen" seller on home video or a box office populist film. It's pretty straightforward why it's there.

The Jazz Singer is one of the most important films in Warner's history. It didn't surprise me that they were going to upgrade it for their 90th anniversary.

It's now been dated for January 8th and it essentially appears to be the same as the 3-disc DVD with only disc one being upgraded to Blu-Ray (and the other two discs being the same).

I know why it's there. I just think with WB's rich history there are better films to include.

I can't quite get my head around how much you'd have to dislike Inception to highlight it over the likes of The Hangover or The Bodyguard.

For Blu-ray fans, among the films that will be released for the first time ever on the format in 2013 are Mrs. Miniver, Grand Hotel and Driving Miss Daisy (already announced for release on 1/8), The Jazz Singer and Cabaret (Q1 2013), Little Caesar, Public Enemy, Petrified Forest and White Heat (Q2 – as part of an Original Gangsters Collection: Volume 2 or BD singles), House of Wax Blu-ray 3D (Q3), East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause and Giant (TBA - available as BD Book singles or together in a James Dean: Ultimate Collector’s Edition), The Big Parade (Q4), The Right Stuff: 30th Anniversary Edition (Q4) and The Best Years of Our Lives, A Star is Born (1976), Sommersby, Easter Parade, Westworld, Best in Show and The Nativity Story (all TBA).
I'm sure I'm not the only one dying to get The Big Parade bluray. Here's hoping that Greed, The Crowd, The Wind, etc. are in the works too.

Oh my god, Big Parade is finally coming... and on Blu-ray?! Amazing news. And as you say, this should bode well for the other big ones.

I cannot believe I just read The Big Parade on that list. I was expecting an Archive dvd release and it's going to be released on blu-ray? Too good to be true.

Here's hoping The Crowd is next.

The Big Parade news in that paragraph is easily the most exciting (not that Dean and Gangster films aren't as well).

Bill Hunt also mentioned a Mad Max 3-film collection is due this year. I would be surprised if the first two films are different discs than the current releases (with the 1st film licensed from MGM), but it will be nice to get Thunderdome.

I'm just assuming that there's some 1970s TV movie also called "The Big Parade" that we've all overlooked.

If they really wanted me to plotz in joy they'd put The Metaphor on as an extra even if it were the only extra. Either way exciting news.

Paramount Home Entertainment and Warner Home Entertainment Group announced today that they have signed a new distribution agreement. As a result, starting January 1, 2013 Warner will have access to more than 600 Paramount catalog titles which can be distributed in the U.S. and Canada.

Under the new agreement, Warner will also be able to manufacture on-demand titles and include UltraViolet digital copy bundled with packaged media.

The three-year deal covers U.S. and Canadian rights and includes a number of hit titles, such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Airplane!, and Terms of Endearment. However, Paramount retains rights for many of its most popular titles, including the Transformers, Star Trek and Indiana Jones franchises.
This sounds great.

List of 2013 box sets to commemorate the 90th anniversary. Interesting that they are doing another Ocean's set, possibly with new transfers since the previous set's quality is quite dubious.

Let's hope that one of those Gangster sets will deliver us The Roaring Twenties and / or White Heat on Blu!

White Heat was specifically mentioned as a forthcoming Blu-ray title for Q2 2013.

I'm a bit apprehensive about WB's use of the word 'Ultimate' - hopefully they'll stick to the classics and won't mix in modern films like Training Day.
