Contemporary Gangsters: Volume 1 contains Goodfellas, Heat, The Departed and The Town.
Original Gangsters Collection: Volume 2 contains Little Caesar, Public Enemy, Petrified Forest and White Heat.

Slightly odd titling.

If they replaced The Petrified Forest with The Roaring Twenties or Angels With Dirty Faces that Original Gangsters box would be perfect.

I know it's not really a gangster thing but The Petrified Forest is probably my favourite of all those films so I'm just happy that it's coming to Blu, however it's packaged.

A Star is Born (1976) got a release date - February 5. A digibook is available for pre-order at DVD Empire.

Thanks for the link.

I don't get why they're using these bland fonts for the blu-ray releases. The dvd font was so much better.

It's safe to assume Easter Parade will be released before Easter, right? Maybe another Q1 release.

Its date is listed as TBA, which I thought meant "we still have no idea when this is going to be ready", but A star is born was also listed as TBA and they announced it 3 days later, so why not?

The Thing from Another World

Any rumors regarding a Blu of The Thing from Another World? Thinking of hosting a Christian Nyby Film Festival in my home theater...

I think Warner doesn't have immediate plans even for The Big Sleep (Nyby was the editor) let alone The Thing. My guess is that it comes out sooner in region B land where, I believe, Universal has the rights. Fingers crossed for the MOC edition!

Warner's probably preparing a special Blu-ray set for next year's big Nyby centenary.

The info garnered at the HTF meet is mostly already known, but if anyone was on the fence about buying The Big Parade:
Enough people buy The Big Parade then we will see The Crowd, The Wind and Greed.

Hmmm. They're using these three titles as hostages to try and generate sales of another title.... Well, I was going to get The Big Parade anyway. It isn't The Wind though... I wonder what kind of sales they're expecting. Or if it's just a way to never release any of those and make a few more sales of their chosen one!

This isn't a quote from WB, it's speculation from somebody who witnessed the chat. So don't get your hopes up yet.

If I understand correctly, The Big Parade was the largest grossing WB title of the silent era and is a very highly ranked film. Plus it has the war aspect of it which gives it more crossover potential than The Crowd.

Anyway fingers and toes crossed for all these films in HD.

Big Parade was MGM, but wikipedia confirms that not until The Artist did a silent film gross more than it. Let's just all hope all these films get their due!

Robert Crawford aka Crawdaddy wrote:The units sold for Laura from Fox will be followed very closely by the whole industry. If it sells very well then more film noir releases will follow and the same applies to silents with The Big Parade from Warner.
How exactly is the whole industry going to closely follow how many units of Laura have sold? Isn't that something that will be known only to certain people at Fox?

That's a good question, actually. I know that the music industry has stuff like Soundscan, but generally labels keep internal sales figures either close to the vest or made available for investors/advertisers willing to pony up for said data. Probably not dissimilar for DVDs/Blus and their distros

Does that mean they haven't begun working in any of those films?
