PLAY IT AS IT LAYS is Universal as well, and I've always wondered why that one never even made the leap to home video. Same goes for RED SKY AT MORNING, which has half of that principal cast from Perry's LAST SUMMER.

Has there ever actually been a 'rumour' about this? I (and plenty of others) have speculated about such a set on the grounds of Criterion's access to Rossellini + common sense, but I don't recall anything from the horse's mouth about such a collection. So there would be no hypothetical clock running if it were just idle speculation from us.
You are absolutely right, the crooked horse never opened its mouth regarding such a set! That's why its a rumor! :) But, would love to have such a set (it will save some money, may be!)! If such box becomes a reality, probably not gonna happen soon, imo! After Shoah, I will be glad to have a Satyajit Ray box (whatever the films are) and the postponed set of Wenders films (Road Trilogy+ The American Friend), Wenders himself confirmed that set for a release during last summer...

Oh, it's coming. Just don't expect the complete works (no Joan or Angst/Fear).

So maybe Babette's Feast isn't coming anytime soon: there's a lawsuit over the rights.

Interestingly, it came out on AE Blu in the UK only a few weeks ago.

Well, if I'm understanding the article correctly (and it's possible I'm not), the dispute is only over who owns the rights in the U.S.

Big C, for the July announcements, can you give us a hint as for what spine #666 will be? Pretty please?

There may be a backbone involved.

I keep seeing this being mentioned as a possible future title from Criterion. It's a "cute" movie but for me seems a bit of an odd title for Criterion to work on, even if I have no doubt Fox would have no issue in licencing it off to someone else. Was this hinted at or mentioned somewhere?
I believe that originated due to his phantom page on Criterion's website. We know that Criterion has some more Fox titles, and that seemed like the most likely Nichols to be available to them. I suppose Primary Colors isn't out of the question either.
Are we sure that the Nichols film couldn't possibly be Silkwood, Catch 22, or Heartburn? All of them seem to be OOP...

Also, this confirms at least 3 new spines for July.

I haven't the foggiest but Shoah is #663 so if Del Toro is getting #666 for July then...

Oh, OK! Let me put 3 more titles for July - Tess [-o< , Eraserhead ](*,) and Lord of the Flies (upgrade) :)

Not really excited, because I don't think I will be seeing any Satyajit Ray films announced for July! So anything is fine with me...

666: Devil's Backbone
667: Boy

July predictions:

The Devil's Backbone
Foreign Correspondent
Tess
Madadayo
The Uninvited

Upgrades:
Floating Weeds/A Story of Floating Weeds
Lord of the Flies
The Thief of Bagdad

I put the Floating Weeds double feature up as a nod to the late Roger Ebert, who had recorded a commentary on the Criterion edition. While a somewhat out of left field pick, it would be a nice tribute.

Has it been confirmed or at least presumed that Criterion has the rights to other Lynch films? I would love them to spend a year hypeing Eraserhead then put something else out out of nowhere.

Other than that I'm carrying over my "big Italian film" prediction from last month, and The Lord of the Flies blu.

No, but a lot of people are hoping for Mulholland Drive.

Would also be a tribute to Donald Richie, as he provided the commentary on the other feature. But I doubt A Story of Floating Weeds is ready for blu-ray.

There's always a chance that they licensed The Elephant Man from Paramount before Warner got Paramount distribution.

Pardon my ignorance, but was that one of the 600 titles that Warner got distribution for? If so, I would say that pretty much kills its chances for being a CC release.

I don't think I've ever done one of these prediction things, and it sounded like a fun idea (I'll go more random then the usual predictable fare).

Theme: Have yourself a super spooky July:

Don't Look Now
Le Golem (1936)
The Haunting
The Innocents
Night of the Living Dead / Dawn of the Dead box
Phantom of the Paradise
Suspiria
Throne of Blood - upgrade
Varieté (1925)

either that or

Devil's Backbone
Eraserhead
Devi (The Goddess)
Ikiru - upgrade
Lord of the Flies - upgrade
Mystery WB licensed title #2
