It's a great set (I only have the DVD to explain my HD confusion). The transfers are wonderful and there's a Cronenberg commentary on the main film with a couple of interviews.

Oh, I had no idea that Fast Company had been reissued on Blu. Well, that puts paid to seeing those films in HD any time soon.

That said the television movies and amateur shorts would be great additions. I imagine for Scanners the two shorts plus Jim Ritchie Sculptor and Letter from Michelangelo while The Brood should get Lakeshore, Tourettes, and Winter Garden. I'd love for more, but doubt there would be room.

Re: Forthcoming Lists Discussion and Random Speculation Vol.
Any chance Crash could be included in this set or would it just be confined to that period of his career?

In all likelihood the two main features will be in consecutive spines, but sold separately because of how well they'd sell. If they have Crash there's probably a lot more work to be done and we won't see it until some time after these two.

What more would they do with Crash besides port over their existing LD extras?

Depends on the LD extras I assume. Probably a new doc or something on Ballard. If they're willing to go to the deep cuts like I hope then maybe they'd pair up that too. Of course seeing the pre-Shivers stuff is but a dream for me.

I always figured Crash would just be a direct port like The Game. It was fairly loaded if I recall correctly

Commentary, trailer, and this short behind-the-scenes featurette. Not exactly loaded, but it is a great commentary.Moe Dickstein wrote:fairly loaded

Maybe Cronenberg and Lynch each will get a big box of films titled "all the shit we could get our paws on".

Hopefully the 1971 short film Crash! might turn up there.knives wrote:Depends on the LD extras I assume. Probably a new doc or something on Ballard. Who has the rights to release Jonathan Weiss's film of The Atrocity Exhibition in the US? My wildest dreams would involve a pair of consecutive spine numbered releases of that and Crash (given that Crash is kind of a novel-length elaboration growing out of the "car crash as a fertilising event" section of Atrocity Exhibition).

I just hope it gets some kind of Blu release. The night scenes in particular would look fantastic in that high of quality.

It's good that they cater to a wide variety of film goers. I'd rather watch the complete Stanley Kramer library than any more Lynch.

Which Lynch have you seen that put you off so badly?Moe Dickstein wrote:It's good that they cater to a wide variety of film goers. I'd rather watch the complete Stanley Kramer library than any more Lynch.

If you actually believe that Kramer's 50s to 60s run was one of the greatest runs by any Hollywood director ever, wouldn't that apply to 99% of films / directors, though?Moe Dickstein wrote:It's good that they cater to a wide variety of film goers. To me, your comment makes about as much sense as me saying "I'd rather watch Edward Yang's complete works than any film by Stanley Kubrick" - which is true, but as a rhetorical flourish is as limp as they come.

I don't particularly like or dislike Kramer. On the other hand, the only Lynch film I've even been able to sit through to the end is The Straight Story.
I don't think others are idiots for liking his work or seeing things in it I don't, I just accept that we all have different taste, and whats wrong with that?

I said nothing about him having a great run, merely that I prefer him who is so demonized here to Lynch who is lionized. Apologize if my limpness offends, but Lynch and Cronenberg don't really get me turned on...zedz wrote:If you actually believe that Kramer's 50s to 60s run was one of the greatest runs by any Hollywood director ever, wouldn't that apply to 99% of films / directors, though?Moe Dickstein wrote:It's good that they cater to a wide variety of film goers.
