Okay, well I wasn't sure precisely when those two were released, whether it was just before or just after they began releasing blu-rays.

The following seem virtual locks:

The Brood
Scanners
Eraserhead
I Married a Witch

Beyond those, we'll likely get a couple of upgrades. I'm hoping for the long anticipated Ace in the Hole blu-ray. Maybe Le samourai will be the other.

Grover Crisp promised me--and 300 of my closest friends at the time--a Criterion Blu of Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion for 2013. That was September of 2012, and of course, schedules are subject to change, but still . . .

Also, shouldn't Tess be showing up pretty soon?

If they're going all out for Halloween, I would bet an Eyes Without a Face upgrade

Every year people guess Criterion will do a Halloweenish month, and every year Criterion does whatever they want instead

I too am surprised that Jules et Jim is yet to be upgraded. To me it is definitive Truffaut and a classic of the French New Wave. A beautiful picture all round. I recall that it may have already been released in Spain and elsewhere on blu, but I'm waiting for the inevitable Criterion upgrade.

Over the past three years, House, Kuroneko, Island of Lost Souls, and Rosemary's Baby have been released in October, so it seems they have been making an effort. It so happens that they have an abundance of Halloween-appropriate material this year. We know these films are forthcoming, so why would Criterion not once again take advantage of the season?

I predict October will be a Halloween-themed release schedule, but Criterion picks a slate of titles other than what most people are clamoring for, just to mess with the folks on Criterionforum:

Night Of The Living Dead
The Tenant
Flesh For Frankenstein /3D
Blood Of Dracula
Riget I & II
Haxan upgrade
Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse upgrade

If even just one of those gets released I'll eat my hat.

They've released 1-2 Halloweeny titles per year, but they've never done a full Halloween month, despite regular predictions that every horror title in the collection will get a blu upgrade in October. While it's possible, I doubt any upgrades/eclipse will be horror-related, and I could see Eraserhead possibly not coming out till November.

I think we might actually get all the New Years clues out this year! (Because Y Tu Mama Tambien was finally left off.) We've just got Eraserhead, Scanners, The Kid, whatever that person looking at snow is, and possibly Le Samourai (if that sword isn't somehow part of La Cage).

Anyway, for the rest of the year, I'm gonna go with:

October
Scanners
The Brood
I Married a Witch
All That Heaven Allows Blu (For the fall colors)
Written on the Wind (or Magnificent Obsession) Blu
Czech New Wave 2 Eclipse

November
Frances Ha
Eraserhead
The Kid
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Le Samourai Blu
Life Aquatic Blu

December
Tess
Gray Gardens Blu (finally)

I think All That Heaven Allows might get held off for Christmas, since it does have those great winter scenes (and the New Year's clue of Jane Wyman looking out at the snow seems like a possible hint at release date, too).

Actually there is a chance for 2 of those titles in the next couple of months, though probably not as soon as October.

Do you think they'd include some of Vlacil's other films like Valley of the Bees and Adelheid in that second Czech New Wave Eclipse set?

I'm extremely interested in further Czech and other Eastern European releases. It was a thrill to get Marketa Lazarova, but the pre-existing Second Run version wasn't so bad. Rather than Valley of the Bees, I'd like to get Commie Block Art films that Second Run has not already provided, with Csontváry perhaps at the top of that list. Huszárik's only other feature-length film, Szinbad, is an incredible viewing experience on Second Run. (inb4 region free fisticuffs.) But any Vlacil certainly is welcomed and appreciated.

This is what's supposed to show up in the future Czech New Wave Eclipse sets.

Vlacil isn't usually considered part of the Czech New Wave, if I'm not mistaken, so he'll probably get his own Eclipse set somewhere down the line.

I could see them doing a barebones blu release of Valley of the Bees.

Let's all close our eyes and wish for "The Birds and the Bees and the Devil: Frantisek Vlacil in the 60s", a two-disc BluRay box set with sparkling new transfers of his remaining three sixties features, a couple of talking heads context pieces, and some or all of Vlacil's early shorts.
