Which says, coming soon: Il Bidone.......but more importantly VAN GOGH!.
I've been holding out hope they wouldn't quit on the Pialat, dreams come true. Now for the rest.....
Sorry, also Time to Live and a Time to Die, Tarnished Angels and Simon Killer.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Sorry, I have to ask, it's definitely Time to Live and a Time to Die? I only ask because of the follow up mention of Tarnished Angels. Even an upgrade of a Time to Love and a Time to Die would be fantastic, but this is just huge! And Tarnished Angels is one of my favourite films, so regardless of what else gets announced, this is terrific (Il Bidone and Van Gogh are also wonderful).Gaddis wrote:

Does not say. I'd assume Time to Love is, I could be wrong.

Doesn't say - but I think all have DVD releases in the UK before so it's likely.

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Thanks, chaps.
If Van Gogh is a Blu then I hope it sells well and encourages MoC to upgrade their Pialats. I'm sticking to my vow to lay off the French BDs for a year to give them the chance to do their own versions. And I'll be pre-ordering VG, needless to say.

Jesus! I can't be happy enough to have A Time to Love and a Time to Die on Blu-Ray. If there's a Sirk to finally make it in HD, I'm glad it's his color and 'scope masterpiece. I thought the Douglas Sirk's didn't sell well, so I'm surprised about the upgrade. Not complaining one bit though! The edition out already is perfect with some fantastic special features and a beautiful review by Godard, but if that transfer is better, consider it a done deal.
Glad I also held off on the French Blu-Ray of Van Gogh.

Hey New Yorkers and Jerseyites: spend your time being slightly more productive than posting on CF.org allathetime:

Email CV and/or LinkedIn plus brief intro to craig at mastersofcinema dot org. Also high familiarity with what's important and happening in major + indie festival, and repertory, scenes. Thanks in advance!

I hope Masters of Cinema saves Walsh's Me and My Gal from MOD Hell, much the way they saved Fuller's Park Row and McCarey's Ruggles of Red Gap. That particular announcement distressed me more than almost any announcement I can remember.

The Tarnished Angels is the first Universal title MoC have released in a little over a year - I wonder if this is part of a new 'deal' or just a continuation of the old one? If the former, I hope that they've got their hands on some RKO films. They've said they were trying for The Magnificent Ambersons but they shouldn't forget Ray's The Lusty Men.

Hopefully Dennis Hopper will finally enter the collection with The Last Movie (or Out of the Blue).

I still dream of Out of the Past, a Val Lewton or three or Laughton's Hunchback. Being as Warners have no intention of Bluing in the US.Calvin wrote:The Tarnished Angels is the first Universal title MoC have released in a little over a year - I wonder if this is part of a new 'deal' or just a continuation of the old one? Maybe? Just guessing. Previous (catalog) titles that got preliminary announcements were Nosferatu, The Birth of a Nation and La passion de Jeanne d'Arc.Calvin wrote:Would that really be a "rediscovery"?eerik wrote:Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari?

Re: MoC Forthcoming, Wishlist and Random Speculation
Yeah, its definitely not talking about Caligari. There's nothing "cult" or "rediscovery" about it.
Its more likely something from Universal, if its an American film, since Arrow will likely have first pick of Fox licensed cult titles.

Don't you mean MGM? Have Arrow put out anything from Fox?What A Disgrace wrote:Its more likely something from Universal, if its an American film, since Arrow will likely have first pick of Fox licensed cult titles.

I thought all the MGM films were licensed to them by Fox, the same as MoC's Park Row?

Park Row was licensed from Universal (via Hollywood Classics). What A Disgrace wrote:I thought all the MGM films were licensed to them by Fox, the same as MoC's Park Row?
Fox is mentioned quite a few times in the booklet, but only in connection with Fuller not making the film for them!
As for Arrow, as far as I'm aware their MGM titles (which mostly seem to originate from United Artists or independent pickups) were licensed directly from MGM. I can't imagine why Fox would be involved.

I'm envisioning something in their wheelhouse of Repo Man-- What are some "cult"-y Universal flicks from the 80s?

The Fury?MichaelB wrote:Don't you mean MGM? Have Arrow put out anything from Fox?
Any confusion may be due to the fact Fox distribute all of MGM's product on both sides of the pond. But sub licensing is probably handled solely by MGM.MichaelB wrote:As for Arrow, as far as I'm aware their MGM titles (which mostly seem to originate from United Artists or independent pickups) were licensed directly from MGM. You can check out what Fox/Universal/MGM own and are willing to licence here
