Based off phantom pages there has been speculation about Phantom of the Paradise; Beyond the Valley of the Dolls; All that Jazz and a few other titles.
All That Jazz is coming next year from Fox. Don't quote me on this, but Phantom of the Paradise will likely be released by Fox themselves also.

Which further proves "reliability" of those "phantom pages". The Good, The Bad and The Ugly anyone?

I was starting to think the day would never come that Criterion released another feature length animated film. Mr. Fox is a fun flick, and an obvious choice being an Anderson movie. I hope it's only the first of a number of animated features to make their way into Criterion's hands. The Laloux films and the rumored Princess Mononoke would be great surprises.

I noticed that two great MGM courtroom dramas- Judgement at Nuremberg and Witness for the Prosecution- are OOP. Have we caught wind of any hints that these may be coming?

No, I don't think they're very likely to have a Stanley Kramer movie in the collection.

Do you think Criterion would give any of the other Godzilla films individual mainline releases, though? I think they would probably be ideal for an Eclipse set, if they're even still planning on releasing more Eclipse sets (it's been a while).

Thanks, too bad. I'm sure (if possible) they'll leap for the Wilder, though.

Eclipse would be pointless really since most G films are available in region 1 in DVD editions anyway, most of which are pretty good. Ideally we'd get a Zatoichi style set of the Showa era films (or, perhaps even better, a Honda tokusatsu box set). Though with Media Blasters announcing they're bringing DAM and Megalon back in print, a complete set seems very unlikely.

I think a potential Criterion realse of Wilder's Witness for the Prosecution offers a great indication as to how Criterion views any other future releases of Wilder's films. If they still consider Wilder's films worthy of consideration, Witness could come paired with a Blu-upgrade of Ace, or paired with Wilder's last good character-driven film, The Fortune Cookie. Also, the special features for Witness could really tip Criterion's hand at how much importance they view Wilder's filmmaking legacy, since a release of this film could easily go the other way and become the Agatha Christie-driven special features spine number, or the lateast-installment-of-the-continuing-special features-saga-that-is-Charles Laughton.

Poor Billy Wilder, once rivaling Lubtisch and Sturges, nowadays his films often feel like the original Sydney Pollacks.

That's apparently not with Criterion, either. After all, they are releasing It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World!.

Re: Billy Wilder. I'm sure Criterion will pick up Double Indemnity and The Lost Weekend whenever they get around to picking up another batch of Universal titles. Releases in recent years like Island of Lost Souls and The Uninvited are films that Criterion had been sitting on for ages. We're due for another round of Universal titles. (They even asked us on Facebook a few years ago what classic Universal titles we wanted to see them license.)

Your intuition is wrong. Double Indemnity is coming from Uni, likely next year.

MGM has put hundreds upon hundreds of its classic titles out of print, so that alone is not enough to predict a Criterion release. And while Wilder is responsible for his share of classics, please fucking kill me the day Criterion puts out the Fortune Cookie or One, Two, Three

I'm guessing that, if anything, the MGM Wilders would have gone to Twilight Time. Killing domino will probably not be necessary. I can really only see Criterion pursuing Some Like It Hot and The Apartment, both of which already have Blu-ray releases. I've got my fingers crossed that somebody will release Blus of Avanti! and The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes.

The same goes for Touch of Evil. Uni is working on blu-ray release.

I didn't mean to suggest that I thought an Eclipse set would be a good idea. I just meant that they're the types of films that seem like they would have been released in an Eclipse set under the right circumstances (unavailability in R1 being chief among them). I realize my original wording was misleading. My main point was that I'm not at all convinced that Criterion would consider giving any of the other Godzilla films an individual mainline release. A box set is definitely the way to go, but is there enough of a demand for them to warrant the time and energy it would take to upgrade all of them for Blu-ray and provide worthwhile extras? That's why I suggested an Eclipse set would have been ideal, from a purely theoretical standpoint. It would indeed seem pointless to do an Eclipse set of these movies now, so I don't know where that leaves the prospects of Criterion releasing these movies. As you pointed out, a complete set seems very unlikely, but as I pointed out, an individual release for any of them seems equally unlikely, so unfortunately, I just don't think they're getting released by Criterion.

The Guardian has an article about the restoration of The Lady from Shanghai which just played the London film festival. Grover Crisp states that it will be released on blu in the near future. I assume this will be from either Criterion or Twilight Time.

I would be shocked if this came from Twilight Time. Besides, just seems perfect for CC to release with some great extras.

Before any rumors start, I assume you meant "...or they finally found the extra 45 minutes!", right? For the record, no additional footage for THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI has been uncovered. In fact, Sony spent a considerable amount of time and money just cleaning up the existing 87 minutes of footage which was, apparently, in worse shape than I thought it was.
