Sweet Jesus, I want all of those day 1. I didn't realize "King of the Hill" was a possibility, but it's been a one of my favorite Soderbergh titles for years so count me as ecstatic.

I've never had so many day-one must-buys. As a Soderbergh fanatic, King of the Hill is a must-buy (especially with The Underneath included), can't wait for Fantastic Mr. Fox, and I have high hopes for Blue is the Warmest Color.

Also, I love Polanski, but don't know much about Tess. Is it good? Please tell me it's awful. I can't take another Blu on my list.

It's not a typical Polanski film (other than maybe the ending), but it's very pretty looking.

I met Steven Soderbergh while he was in Las Vegas shooting Oceans 11--I'd had a few drinks, and mentioned to him how much I admired The Underneath, which he has repeatedly trashed in the years since its release. "I think it's a brilliant film," I said. His response: "I could prove to you in a court of law that you're completely wrong about that."

I found Tess just a little disappointing, but it's gorgeous and absorbing enough -- with uniformly brilliant performances -- that I think it's at least something anyone with a more than passing interest in Polanski ought to see.

Not that it matters but The Underneath was also released on Laserdisc. Seems like Kafka is the last one to come out and we know he's working on a new cut of that - hoping as someone said that is 699 in March.

I wouldn't count on 699 tying in with the releases before or after it. I'm sure Wes Anderson simply requested spine 700 for Fantastic Mr. Fox, and it would have been in the 690s otherwise. He got 300 for The Life Aquatic, resulting in a similar spine number gap for a month or two.

I actually wouldn't mind creating a list of good questions to ask over the weekend for people planning on either emailing or attending the event. Too many stupid people out there; could be a waste of a good opportunity.

Acording to imdb.com, Tess had an "original" run time of 184 minutes, yet Criterion lists 172 minutes, same as the original DVD release. Anyone know what was excised?

CC should definitely be asked about the Children of Paradise fiasco and The Earrings of Madame D transfer. CoP came out prior to last years Wexner talk and no one asked then. They need to address this.
