Re: Werner Herzog Collection
My calculator says you've still got them beat by one film then!
Seriously though, these two sets will probably make 2014 the best year for Blu-ray so far for me. Though I doubt there's going to be an opportunity to get the Herzog set for anything near as low as £60!

I believe Shout didn't advertise that among their acquirements either. Surprising that that of all things is not available.swo17 wrote:I gladly stand corrected! Now if I also mention Even Dwarfs Started Small, will that magically show up as well?

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
Correct, Shout doesn't have it either. Perhaps domino harvey paid top dollar to acquire the worldwide rights so that he could give it his own loving, bells-and-whistles edition?

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
Will Aguirre and Nosferatu be getting separate non-steelbook releases? For that matter, will most of these films only be available in the boxset?

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
This will be a great set, though the omissions - specifically the three key features - are weird. I can't imagine that the BFI would have turned up their noses at Signs of Life if they're going for Huie's Sermon. Are they already spoken for in the UK? (And if so, why those films in particular?)

For the record, what other feature is missing besides Signs of Life and Dwarves?zedz wrote:This will be a great set, though the omissions - specifically the three key features - are weird. Would be nice if the Anchor Bay commentary tracks with Herzog could be brought over but I'm not optimistic we'll see them.

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
Is the set going to be released in separate BD and DVD editions or will this be a giant dual format package a la Zatoichi (purely for storage reasons I hope it'll be the former)?

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
They usually don't do separate editions, but I surely hope they do separate ones for this release. This is going to be a precious addition to my collection, and I don't want to receive a damaged box. After all, its gonna be a long journey for the set to be at my door stepFinch wrote:Is the set going to be released in separate BD and DVD editions or will this be a giant dual format package a la Zatoichi (purely for storage reasons I hope it'll be the former)?

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
How is this going to make any difference? It's all about the construction of the boxset and the packaging!

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
You are right, but let me know if you agree with this. Lets say that all features are loaded in 6 BDs and 9 DVDs. So, total 15 discs. So, which is more convenient? A 6 discs box set or a 15 discs one?perkizitore wrote:How is this going to make any difference? It's all about the construction of the boxset and the packaging!
Finally, Dual format could be advantageous here as BFI usually put lot of extras in the DVD copies, not in the BD ones. Check some of their releases if you have some.

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
I was commenting on the probability of damage, not convenience! I don't think it affects convenience much other if you design the thing carefully.

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
It says "Blu ray and DVD box sets" which possibly suggests single format releases.

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
I personally am looking forward to the set being in the shape of a giant boat. If they start dragging the boxset now, they should just about make it to our garden paths before the postman goes mad and decides to ride the parcel down the street ranting at the brutality of nature all the way.chatterjees wrote:After all, its gonna be a long journey for the set to be at my door step
(Wonderful news on all of these new announcements by the way!

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
Michaelb, just a curious question that maybe you can speculate a guess at. Why was Aguirre and Nosferatu chosen as the special stand alone releases? Aguirre is perhaps an obvious choice but Nosferatu, and why not more titles?

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
I suspect it's connected with the recent theatrical revival for the BFI's Gothic project.

I guess I spoke too soon: MovieMail have this listed with an RRP of £80, and they're offering it for £57. A no brainer (as Kevin Bacon would say).

Does someone know when MovieMail charge for an order ? Because at this price, it's indeed a no brainer.

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
Out of the Anchor Bay Kinski box I am missing My Best Fiend, and from the other Herzog Box Lessons In Darkness and Little Dieter Needs To Fly seem missing from the upcoming BFI release.TMDaines wrote:So you'll be able to replace one Anchor Bay box but not the second, non-Kinzki box.

Re: Werner Herzog Collection
Well, I was hoping we would get some non-directed-by-Herzog extras, like My Best Fiend. They've only announced the films themselves so far, surely.Caligula wrote:Out of the Anchor Bay Kinski box I am missing My Best Fiend, and from the other Herzog Box Lessons In Darkness and Little Dieter Needs To Fly seem missing from the upcoming BFI release.TMDaines wrote:So you'll be able to replace one Anchor Bay box but not the second, non-Kinzki box.

What do you mean? Herzog is the director on My Best Fiend.
