Where's the Violent Saturday poster? I want to see that woman crying on her hood son's elbow as they fall to their deaths in Turnercolor™ on every wall of my apartment.

This is funny that the Noon Wine IMDb rating is better than that of The Killer Elite (7.6>6).

Why is that funny? The Killer Elite is, if not quite his worst film, his most hollow work. Noon Wine kind of makes this version of The Killer Elite a must-have. If I'm not mistaken, it's the sort of thing that airs/screens very rarely and it's never been on home video anywhere at all. Though it was forever on my list of things to catch in the public viewing facilities at the Museum of Television and Radio. Ideally, because of Robards, it should be on the Cable Hogue disc, but good luck ever seeing Warner upgrade or license that title.

I think the set up of the disc is kind of funny. Noon Wine would probably be considered as an extra feature on the disc, whereas the main feature will be The Killer Elite. It just felt weird. Cable Hogue is a much better film than The Killer Elite. So, having Noon Wine as an extra feature on that disc is justified.

It wouldn't be the first time that I'm more interested in the extra than the main feature. I bought MoC's The Blue Light primarily for the massive Leni Riefenstahl documentary, which was once considered good enough to release separately.

Wow, I might actually consider thinking about possibly probably maybe buying one or two of those.

A few tidbits from Facebook:

Noon Wine will be SD only, from the only surviving color element. It's still its one and only home video appearance, but this explains why it is appearing as a supplement rather than as part of a double feature.

Twilight Time have a lot more Woody Allen stuff coming, but not until 2015.

And Man Hunt will be a from a brand new restoration only just completed. I wonder then if the French release from Sidonis simply uses the DVD era master?

Since Noon Wine was made for TV in the first place, I have no problem with an SD version.

Is there some specific reason why that is an unrealistic prospect? I know it's a weird (and wonderful) film but is it generally that badly regarded?

By the general public, yeah, sort of. I haven't yet met a true fan of Peckinpah who doesn't know the film or like it, but I know plenty of other film aficionados and Western genre connoisseurs who don't care for it. And, well, it's a Warner property. They pretty much don't ever license their titles out, with very few exceptions, most notably Badlands. And they don't care about tending to the lesser lights of their catalog except in inferior versions through the Archive. I'd love to see a Blu-ray of this, but short of reissuing that whole set in HD, I doubt it will ever happen. Maybe those Swiss or German labels that seem to do well with American Westerns will get it eventually.

I'm excited about the Peckinpah, Man Hunt, and Fleischer's glorious misfire Che!. This is almost Olive-level auteurist eclecticism. I like it.

A new restoration of Man Hunt could also explain why the MoC release was nixed way back when.

Sounds like Birdman of Alcatraz is coming from Twilight Time later this year according to blu-ray.com member BluOrbit. It was mentioned by Nick Redman on The Train commentary track.
