Oh man! If this is a Blu release of the Varda box set I'm going to be so excited! That's one of my favorite things Criterion has ever released.
Sounds more likely that it's a new collection of her L.A. work: DOCUMENTEUR, LIONS LOVE, MUR MURS, and the Black Panther documentary. I saw her at LACMA a couple years ago and she indicated an Eclipse set of these was in the works, happy to see it's been elevated to a mainline release!

I'm willing to bet it's all of the above a la the Tati release. Or I'm willing to hope, anyway. That Ciné-Tamaris set is a treasure and I would not be surprised if it's influenced Criterion's urgency to get as much Varda out as possible.

The only thing we know for sure is that Criterion won't outdo the Cine-Tamaris packaging.
If there is a big Varda box coming, I really hope they see fit to include the lost film Nausicaa as an extra, since the original release didn't include subs.

Just to play devil's advocate, do remember that Criterion filmed that interview between Robert Downey Sr. and PTA that was merely uploaded as promotional material online.
I like how there's a stack of Criterion's biggest boxed sets in the corner of that shot (Zatoichi, Janus box, and AK 100). It sounds like maybe it's just her L.A. films, but one can dream that it's the complete Varda on blu-ray.

As already mentioned, the US rights to some of the Varda films are confirmed otherwise for the US, so much like Rohmer, a complete US set will NOT be on the docket.
But that wouldn't necessarily stop Criterion from putting out a new set that includes the 4 Films content plus whatever else they have the rights to. Or just a straight doc box, I suppose.

I'm all for including whatever they have (though my interest is mainly in her fiction work), but just didn't want people getting their hopes up. The French Varda box will likely retain many exclusives...and it is mostly subbed.
Does Merchant Ivory own the distribution rights to A Room with a View? If so, I doubt we'll ever see a Criterion edition materialize.
Sands is likely being interviewed for Mike Figgis' Leaving Las Vegas, but I'd also be interested in a Criterion edition of Russell's Gothic or Joffe's The Killing Fields.
The latter two seem unlikely, since the first is not an excellent film and the second is a Warner Bros. feature, but one can hope.

This is the film I often associate Julian Sands with, mainly because I love Ken Russell, but I don't see Criterion having any interest in releasing this. Plus, it's owned by Lionsgate (along with all the post-Altered States Russell flicks).
