U Turn (Oliver Stone, 1997)

#1901 Post by reesepd »

I can't think of another film from the 90s more deserving of more attention. I bought the Twilight Time Blu of this film - one I had already considered underrated - and rewatched it with my mind slightly blown. The film looks and sounds amazing, and I don't think it has aged a bit. Nearly twenty years later, and it feels so timeless. I know Stone is most known for being the political provocateur of American film nowadays, but this rare occasion of his to tread into purely genre subject matter might just be his finest work. It's a trashy, pulpy, disturbing, darkly hilarious, and on-point piece of neo-noir - and I'm absolutely in love with this film. Slowly rising into being a top tier favorite.

It's nice to see they are doing a commentary for nearly every release now.

I was just wondering, what are the qualifications for a "film historian?"

it is a very entertaining/good movie. too bad that stone didn't make more noir films, instead of all the war/politics stuff. kind of a waste as far as i'm concerned.

The best of everything is that she has an urban-themed snow globe for a chest.

Sure, in their next half-off sale.

(I do like the movie, though.)

At 9 am Pacific time today - Wednesday, July 1st - Twilight Time is proud to announce the launch of our very own web portal http://twilighttimemovies.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; -

Here you will be able to purchase our latest titles and many of our catalogue movies, keep up with announcements, and, in time, enjoy thoughts, tributes, and essays about favorite films and filmmakers, brought to you by a variety of voices. Note that clause: “in time.” This website is definitely a work in progress, and subject to sea change.

Despite our enthusiastic optimism, we know that any new venture of this kind is bound to be an adventure of trial and error. Please forgive us our failings in advance, and bear with us as we attempt to surmount the inevitable growing pains.

http://twilighttimemovies.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; will work in conjunction with our regular retail outlet http://www.screenarchives.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in presenting our new releases simultaneously - today at 4 pm EST (1 pm Pacific), our five new July titles go up for pre-order:

THE WORLD OF HENRY ORIENT (1964)
THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS (1989)
THE BEST OF EVERYTHING (1959)
PLACES IN THE HEART (1984)
A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY (1987)

and as a special opening day gift, the first 60 aficionados to purchase all 5 of the new titles from the new site will receive a FREE promotional copy of FRIGHT NIGHT: 30th Anniversary Edition - these are the last 60 promos held back for emergencies, and we feel there is no better way to allocate them than to give them away on our own site.

Once the site is live at 9 am Pacific, you can log on and register your details, but bear in mind you may have to re-enter your CC information at the point of check out in keeping with many current retail outlets - this is a factor to remember today when taking advantage of the FREE Fright Night promo.

Fulfilment and shipping for the new site will be handled by our manufacturers, Cinram, who perform these functions for several of the major Home Video entities, including 20th Century Fox's online retail outlet, Fox Connect.

http://twilighttimemovies.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has been developed to maximize consumer ease and satisfaction in purchasing, but as mentioned above we don't expect everything to be perfect from minute one --

for any questions or queries, please take advantage of our service department:

We really appreciate how you wonderful guys and gals have been with us from day one and assisted us through many teething troubles - have helped us to climb a steep learning curve, and understand better how to streamline our efforts and make the experience a better one for all concerned. Our new web portal is the next step in Twilight Time's evolution, and the four year rollercoaster ride that has got us this far, looks even more exciting for the next four years and beyond -

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that wonderful support and more - we wouldn't be here without you.

Pretty painless checkout process. Fright Night is added to your cart automatically once you add the five titles. Worked out for me well since I wanted everything this month except Places in the Heart, which I can easily sell for about what I paid once it arrives, and the cost is well offset by getting Fright Night

More praise for TT's new site: They overcharged some customers by $5 for one of the pre-orders and refunded the difference and when I inquired about it to make sure my whole order wasn't in danger, I received one reply back within the hour and then another, even more effusively polite reply a few hours after that. Excellent customer service.

Criticism for the new site: at first they wouldn't allow shipping to Canada, but that's fixed now. But, the shipping cost is considerably more than it was at screen archives.

Screen Archives Entertainment $4 shipping discount:
Let's celebrate the 4th of July with a $4.00 credit towards your shipping costs! Use code 4july4 at checkout. No minimum orders required and valid for all customers US and International! Code is valid today, July 1st through midnight Eastern Time Sunday July 5th. Happy Holidays!!
Would've been better if they offered free domestic shipping (for domestic customers, anyway), but good if you just want to order 1 or 2 titles. And yes, they still sell TT through their portal.
