Re: Passages
You're absolutely right - my apologies. I shall berate the Facebook friend who posted that link forthwith.
(UPDATE: It seems that it was an anniversary post by Michael Nyman that was to blame, although not remotely his fault that people mistook it for a death notice.)

People LOVE breaking 'just died' news to other people, especially here. I wonder why... :-kMichaelB wrote:You're absolutely right - my apologies. I shall berate the Facebook friend who posted that link forthwith.

Because it's legitimate news? Except when it isn't, of course, but it usually is, and I was certainly under that impression at the time.bearcuborg wrote:People LOVE breaking 'just died' news to other people, especially here. I wonder why... :-k
I should probably add that the person who broke the "news" to me was a musician of pretty significant stature himself (not Nyman but a mutual Facebook friend), which is why I took him at his word.

Re: Passages
Amusingly enough, Sight & Sound editor Nick James has just "broken the news" as well - presumably from the same source.

Nicholas Smith, the last surviving original cast member of popular (in the UK)/cult (in the US) BBC sitcom Are You Being Served? (he was the manager, Mr Rumbold).

Re: Passages
Terribly sad news. Also bizarre to now find out that he and Trevor Bannister (Mr Lucas) were the same age! It seems that all that is left from the cast of any season of the show is Candy Davis (Mr. Rumbold's secretary) and Mr Spooner (who replaced Mr Lucas for seasons 8-10 - thus he's the last prominent role actor still alive).MichaelB wrote:Nicholas Smith, the last surviving original cast member of popular (in the UK)/cult (in the US) BBC sitcom Are You Being Served? Re: Passages
David Douche, better known as the lead in Bruno Dumont's first film, La vie de Jésus. Very sad, especially considering we lost David Dewaele just a couple years prior.

And Yekaterina Golubeva, the lead in Twentynine Palms, just a couple of years before Dewaele.

Good point, hadn't made that connection as I tend to associate her in my mind with Bartas, Carax, Denis, etc. But she fit quite well into the Dumont universe too.colinr0380 wrote:And Yekaterina Golubeva, the lead in Twentynine Palms, just a couple of years before Dewaele.
The article has been updated and expanded with a particularly tragic detail: that Douche had great difficulty returning to normal working life after filming with Dumont, and never quite recovered his ability to deal with it. André Téchiné was reportedly interested in working with Douche after seeing Dumont's film, but Douche ended up spending 9 months in jail for fighting with the police right around the same time.
