Re: The Lists Project
I'm working my way through my unseen titles from our collective "Best of the List Projects" and man, you assholes just had to vote for all of those impossibly long movies, didn't you?

Yes, but as a Rivette man you should be fine with that.

Hey, some of us also voted for films that were under ten minutes, so it should even out over a lifetime.domino harvey wrote:I'm working my way through my unseen titles from our collective "Best of the List Projects" and man, you assholes just had to vote for all of those impossibly long movies, didn't you?

Re: The Lists Project
If you're suggesting, it's already on the short list of possibilities. If you're asking a question, the answer is yes, sports movies.

It just sprung to mind, didn't check the short list.

Re: The Lists Project
The problem with a sports movie list is that its already a foregone conclusion that Goldengirl (the story of America's triumph at the 1980 Moscow Olympics :-" ) is going to take the number 1 slot! She hasn't been 'enhanced' just to take any lesser position!

Ladybugs starring Rodney Dangerfield as the coach of a girl's soccer team, who gets the son of his girlfriend to play dressed as a girl, so that they can win. Now that's a sport's movie.colinr0380 wrote:The problem with a sports movie list is that its already a foregone conclusion that Goldengirl (the story of America's triumph at the 1980 Moscow Olympics :-" ) is going to take the number 1 slot! Re: The Lists Project
It sounds like that would be the kind of film full of awkward locker room scenes!

Re: The Lists Project
Please forgive me if I missed it, but is this project happening? If so, is there a thread for it?swo17 wrote:Here's something I've been keeping track of for the last several years:
Every film appearing on at least two top 10s throughout Volume 3 of the lists project
...
So here's a crazy idea I had about a way to end this round of the lists project: an all-time list that works from the list linked above (plus any qualifying films from the upcoming 2010-2014 list). You might think of it like these are all the films that performed well enough in the preliminary rounds to make it through to the final round of voting.

Re: The Lists Project
It's starting in June. The link that you quoted lists the currently eligible films. More from 2010-2014 will be added once that project concludes at the end of May.

If I recall, the kid's from that Sea Quest programme and has the hots for Vinessa Shaw, one of his teammates. Unsurprisingly Rodney's girlfriend's a bit weirded out when she discovers the ruse.colinr0380 wrote:It sounds like that would be the kind of film full of awkward locker room scenes!
It's a bit like She's The Man I guess.

So it is a Shakespeare adaptation?

Last time I saw that movie, I literally had no idea that 'trans' was a thing people could be- I wonder if it would come off as mondo gross or oddly progressive these days

Re: The Lists Project
According to the random name generator, our second mini-list this summer is...
Spoiler
Films taking place over 24 hours or less
Not accumulative, so no Steve Jobs. The idea here is narrative, so I guess you could shoehorn in actualities like Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory, but that seems to willfully miss the point (which is something a lot of you seem to relish doing anyways)

So stuff like Do the Right Thing or The Long Good Friday would be a sort of ideal?

Sure, and American Graffiti and the Clock and the Set Up and Beware, My Lovely and Into the Night and Detective Story (which means I can vote for it on two successive lists!) and so on

Re: The Lists Project
Out of curiosity- would something where the main action is all within a few hours, but there are an number of flashbacks count? Or do we need to stay in the 24 hour period throughout?

Re: The Lists Project
This is probably really incomplete, but here are all the films on IMDb tagged with the phrase "one day."

That was the one I had in mind, but it gets into some odd flashbacks within flashbacks where it's questionable where the sort of referent action isknives wrote:You mean like Reservoir Dogs?

Re: The Lists Project
I think flashbacks in general are okay, but when you get into Sorry, Wrong Number territory, it's too much
EDIT Wow, just looking at that IMDB list, there are so many great movies and so few spots on a Top 15. Maybe I should open it up for this and the play adaptations to a Top Ten minimum but up to a top 20 instead of a 15?
