Why would there be a Bluray available for a theater and not the public. No other film is listed as such.

Did Criterion forget upon posting that Friday tweet that today was a holiday?

Yes. How could they forget about National Lineman Appreciation Day? I am deeply offended.

Taxes are due today, quite the opposite of a holiday. Today is an anti-holiday.

It's Patriots Day in MA but that's just a state-wide holiday and since Criterion's offices are in NY I think they'll still announce today (especially since they said they would via twitter and even joked about their taxes, leading me to believe that they wouldn't hold up announcements over that)

Yup, that's what I was referring to -- wasn't thinking about it only being state-wide, my bad.therewillbeblus wrote:It's Patriots Day in MA but that's just a state-wide holiday

Why would one name a holiday after a football team?therewillbeblus wrote:It's Patriots Day in MA but that's just a state-wide holiday and since Criterion's offices are in NY I think they'll still announce today (especially since they said they would via twitter and even joked about their taxes, leading me to believe that they wouldn't hold up announcements over that)

It always coincides with the Boston Marathon, nothing to do with football - although I never really understood it myself and I've lived in MA all my life

Believe me, I'm aware of the joke, still felt like responding since I too am perplexed by the holiday and compulsively killing time waiting for announcements. That's a great meme though.

There will be even more confusion over the meaning of the term Patriots Day when the Peter Berg film of that name about the 2013 marathon bombing is trying for Oscars at the end of this year.

So this is what happens when Criterion is late with announcements. A Patriots Day throw down.

Are you saying Patriots Day throwdowns are a monthly tradition?FrauBlucher wrote:So this is what happens when Criterion is late with announcements. A Patriots Day throw down.

What's the latest they've ever had announcements? They gotta be out of the offices now, right?

Today they added pages for Toby Emmerich and Trish Hofmann, producers of The New World.

Re: Forthcoming: Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Titles announced & our speculation round-up:
The In-Laws - confirmed by Turell in a podcast he did
A Touch of Zen - confirmed countless times - Janus tour, Criterion email, March newsletter
Muriel - Phantom pages were recently added (yesterday), otherwise no speculation - a surprise!
The New World - 2015/2016 New Years clues + website post explicitly stating they were working on it.
Upgrades:
Carnival of Souls - artist's instagram cover post
Night and Fog - complete surprise, no hint otherwise known or speculated
-----------------------------------
Of course the biggest news is that we finally get some upgrades again (last one was March!) Who knows why, but it might be a coincidence that today they officially announced their UK venture (those two + Muriel seem very likely to be UK titles as well). We get two WB titles this month as well! Plus New World has been expected for two years now. I'm perhaps most excited for Carnival of Souls - as that was one of my top ten most wanted upgrades / blus.

Re: Forthcoming: Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
This must be a record for the number of DVDs I've had to list to sell on Amazon after a Criterion announcement--5 listings in total with 2 different cuts of The New World on DVD and Blu-ray, MOC Muriel DVD, and the original Night and Fog and Carnival of Souls DVDs. Yet, I'm still very happy with these announcements.

Re: Forthcoming: Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
A fine set of announcements, nice to see the first second editions of 2016 finally appear (since bicycle thieves was only a format upgrade). I must say I'm a little disappointed there was no eclipse announcement, and a little relieved since I'm now very close to caught up on watching them, so I'm not falling furthur behind with every month's announcements.
The only must buy for me is probably A touch of Zen, and possibly Night and Fog--I sold the DVD three years ago, but the extras sound fascinating but the price is very steep, and I still haven't picked up A Day in the Country. The others from this months are maybes depending on how much burn cash I have for the sale and if any of them get the sort of ecstatic reception (that would move me off the fence) that came with the release of I knew her well or a brighter summer day.

The posted photo of Resnais and Marker strongly suggested Night and Fog to me.Minkin wrote:...Night and Fog - complete surprise, no hint otherwise known or speculated...
