Re: Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke at the BBC
Ok, I'm using a Toshiba BDX1250RF bluray player. I won't know my tv model until I'm back home. As I said, all previous region 2 DVDs or region B blurays have worked fine. (Of course, I have no idea if any of them were 1080i50).

Re: Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke at the BBC
The set arrived yesterday. BFI have done a fantastic job only had time to watch the The Firm which I've not seen for years, its still very disturbing more so with the hooliganism going on in France it was also a strange coincidence watching it the same day Alan Clarkes son was on ITV reporting from tournament in France

I wonder if I'm the only one with a copy where each disc pair is in the wrong place in each case, and need swapping over. Those wishing to watch everything chronologically might want to check.

Same here. It's probably worth noting that there are a couple of points where the set diverges from a strict chronology, though, so watching the discs in order wouldn't quite fit the bill in any case.EddieLarkin wrote:I wonder if I'm the only one with a copy where each disc pair is in the wrong place in each case, and need swapping over. Re: Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke at the BBC
I am following up on my earlier incomplete posts....
I have a Samsung PM51D550C1F television and a Toshiba BDX1250RF bluray player. I'm not a tech-head in the least, and my cursory googling shows no evidence that either of these will support 1080i50 (I'm in the US). I can still cancel my order of the Alan Clarke set before it ships, if my equipment can't handle it. Any thoughts?
Sorry that it took me 3 posts to ask a single question.

is an exact chronological list in the set somewhere? i know there are a few times where two titles came out in the same year.MaxCastle wrote:Same here. I assume the book provides original broadcast dates? It would be a first for the BFI if it didn't.

Yeah, the credits section at the back includes the tx date for each film.

Also, the essays in the book are (I think) organised in chronological order of transmission.

Re: Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke at the BBC
I'm going to nitpick a bit : I received this mammoth today and while I'll certainly be very happy about its content, I'm still am perplexed over the use of 9 BD-25 out of 11 BD discs (+ 2 DVD-9), the same count than what Eddie told on April 20th.
I don't mind the use of BD-25 (baring that the material on it don't suffer from poor compression due to this choice, of course), but in such a boxset, I can't avoid thinking that many less discs could have been used instead by turning pairs of BD-25 into BD-50 and that this 13-discs set could have been turned into a 9-discs one... but with a lower MSRP.
It has been explained by Nick why this configuration was chosen (and probably retained at the end because the deadlines didn't allow to alter the discs split) and I'm fine with it, but I still can't eliminate totally the feeling.
Anyway. Just my 2 cents.

You need to read the thread again. The info on the bellyband is wrong, the printed materials (inc the bellyband) had a deadline a few weeks earlier than the discs and many more BD50s were eventually included.tenia wrote:I'm going to nitpick a bit : I received this mammoth today and while I'll certainly be very happy about its content, I'm still am perplexed over the use of 9 BD-25 out of 11 BD discs (+ 2 DVD-9), the same count than what Eddie told on April 20th

9 discs or 13, this is a steal either way.

On May 4th I posted here that it was now: "10x BD50s, 1x BD25, and 2x DVD9s."

Oh, OK, I misread past posts then. I thought that it changed during the last months of the project but ended up back on the original specs.
My bad then !

Now that this set is out and in many people's hands, I can't wait until we start talking about the films/programs...

Lots of us have already been talking about the films/programmes in this thread. If you want a more satisfactory response than my present mild irritation at your implication that we haven't been, how about posting something substantive yourself?Werewolf by Night wrote:Now that this set is out and in many people's hands, I can't wait until we start talking about the films/programs...

Re: Dissent & Disruption: Alan Clarke at the BBC
Sorry, Michael, that was not directed at you. I very much value your contributions to this thread and others. I was just being cynical about the usual pattern of discussion on this forum: a flurry of excitement at an announcement, followed by a hail of criticism of the specs and cover art, a period of consternation over advance reviews and screen caps, followed by a lengthy period of reporting on who has and has not received their shipments and in what condition they've arrived, followed by complete and utter silence.
I certainly hope to contribute to meaningful discussion of this set once I receive it from Amazon some time in July, but otherwise I've seen very little of Clarke's work (and none of it at any point in the last ten years) and feel ill-prepared to comment on it with any confidence or authority.
