Interestingly (and fittingly), every episode from Season Five qualified except Homer Loves Flanders, which received one vote, and Bart's Inner Child, which received nada (and only Homer and Apu failed to make the final list while still qualifying as an Also Ran). Shocked that Marge vs the Monorail finished so low-- I suspect revisionist Simpsonistas are the culprit for this, but in the wake of Brexit and Trump's rising poll numbers, I don't know why I'm so surprised. And of course I compliment the Treehouse list for pretty much agreeing with my own stances!

TofH XV S16: Jack the Ripper should be another (of my) orphans on the ToH list.

Half of my ToH's made the list, half were orphans.

Really I think the run from S12-16 is the best ToH stretch.
S6-9 is also mighty fine.
I'm wondering if people just haven't seen S12, S14 & S16 ToH's, or didn't care for them that much.
Make sure to see Night of the Dolphins if you haven't.
I like how it's another of those Lisa's do-gooderisms gone wrong.
And Snorky at the Town meeting is great.

I watched everything you recommended and did like Night of the Dolphin and The Ned Zone from the later seasons, but not enough to shake up my top 10. (It already killed me to leave out I Know What You Diddily Iddily Did.)

I find it oddly appropriate that my apparently Season 5-hating heart was the only one to feature Homer Loves Flanders.

I expect I am the single person who didn't include Last Exit to Springfield; I left a spot open for it up until the day before I submitted my list, then watched it and had a sour taste in my mouth so opted for some rejigging instead.

When I made that hint I was talking about Radio Bart, which appeared on all of the first seven lists submitted, but on only one of the last three.

Oh, I wasn't referring to your hint, just a guess that I probably was the combo breaker for that particular beloved episode. (Though this statement makes no sense, considering that now I can see 8 users listed it, meaning me and one other are responsible for its successfully staving off the top spot of another list)

Everyone voted for at least one of the top 2 episodes, so I can tell that 6 out of the 10 participants apparently prefer Last Exit to Substitute. It also got more votes and more #1 votes (well, one more each) but the lowest placement for Substitute was 30, and Last Exit had three placements lower than that.

The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant gets entirely outsourced to India, with Homer in charge.
Homer gets drunk with power and a whole Heart of Darkness riff ensues.
Meanwhile Selma and Patty kidnap Richard Dean Anderson when he turns out to be totally disinterested in McGyver, only for him to go all McGyver on them.
This was a late cut from my list, and easily could have made my Top 50.

I never understood the popularity of Homer Goes to College, Homer at the Bat and Homer Badman. None of those appeals to me much at all. Otoh, I like the Monorail episode but it wasn't really close to making my list.

To some extent, how much I like an episode these days pretty much refers to how re-watchable it is, since I've seen all the S1-S20 episodes at least twice and some seasons as many 4 times. And some individual favorite episodes more than that.

Many thanks as always to swo for his outstanding achievement in the field of excellence.

For the record, I'm the other person who didn't vote for "Last Exit to Springfield"; I like it and it's very funny, but as already mentioned in the thread, I prefer the episodes that tell a somewhat more coherent, relaxed story. Nothing against it, it's just not one of my top favorites, but I know it's a universally beloved episode. (Much more blasphemous is that I don't like the monorail episode much at all. Just not my sense of humor, it seems.) Meanwhile I rewatched "Bart the Lover" last night and what a phenomenal episode that is, with initially disconnected events flowing naturally into one another, a group of great and amusing asides (the opening parody of Case of Spring Fever-like industrial shorts in particular), and a secondary character given center stage but treated with respect and integrity. Plus the family interactions seem so sincere and felt. It's this sort of thing I miss in the later seasons. Most importantly, though, there are big laughs in nearly every scene -- even though I've seen the episode numerous times in the past twenty years.

I would be interested to see how our list would stack up against a more dedicated Simpsons forum run similarly; I suspect that the high placement of episodes like "Rosebud" and "Radio Bart" owe at least a little to this being a board for cinephiles.

It really should have been on my list, but I forgot to look it up.
Three version of the same morning of events from different character's points of view.
Linguo the grammar robot, Homer with only one opposable digit, Krusty drops Lisa off at West Springfield Elementary (the laughter in French class is a great little touch). Good stuff.

My wife's favorite episode is Lisa on Ice. And my love for Rosebud has nothing to do with its allusions to Citizen Kane--it's just a really sharp and funny episode.

Oh it's the same for me, though it does enhance the show a bit now. I didn't see Kane till 2004, at which point my first viewing of it was like a revelation of finally catching Simpsons gags (including smaller ones like Homer in the audience in "A Streetcar Named Marge" and the squawking bird in -- I think -- "Simpson and Delilah").
