Hitchcock's Sabotage, which was previously playing with a Janus logo on iTunes and Amazon, has been added.

I certainly hope Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees is not relegated to DVD. In addition to being amazing in its own right, it features (I hope I can say without spoiling anything) many long shots of cherry blossoms blowing in the wind. It would not be well served by standard definition.Cinephrenic wrote:Would love if they release more Eclipse. Need a Shinoda set.
In other news: apparently an app is available to Apple TV now. Has anybody tried it out?
I currently have a PC connected to my TV, but I'm thinking about getting an Apple TV, so I'm specifically interested in if the Apple TV app overcomes two of the weirder drawbacks of the web interface: 1. films you're watching with commentary, but then take a break from, don't resume with commentary but with the film's original audio, and 2. all titles launch (and resume) with the volume at like 20%, no matter where you had it last time. If you want to listen at full volume you need to manually reset the volume every time you start or restart a film.

Started the svankmajor alice last night. Went back to finish it tonight and kept getting a message that the film had expired. Is it no longer available?

Criterion wrote:Apple TV viewers, you’re in luck! FilmStruck, the new streaming service we launched with Turner Classic Movies last month, is now available on Apple TV fourth-generation devices, in addition to Amazon Fire TV, web, iOS, and Android devices. Those using older Apple TV boxes can access the service via AirPlay. And if you use Roku, Chromecast, Xbox One, or PlayStation, stay tuned—we’re working on going live on those players in 2017.

Re: Streaming the Criterion Collection
One of my favorite films in the collection, Carlos Saura's Peppermint Frappe, now appears in a downgraded transfer on FilmStruck.
The transfer that had been streaming on Hulu was anamorphic and gorgeous, with (mostly) well-translated subtitles.
This FilmStruck transfer is not anamorphic, with different subtitles that don't appear to be as accurate. I wonder if this has happened with other films in the collection?

For the most part, everything I've sampled has been a quality upgrade from Hulu, with the exception of M which still seems to be in a DVD-era scan.thelastclown wrote:One of my favorite films in the collection, Carlos Saura's Peppermint Frappe, now appears in a downgraded transfer on FilmStruck.

Streaming the Criterion Collection
still getting the same message:movielocke wrote:Started the svankmajor alice last night. Went back to finish it tonight and kept getting a message that the film had expired. Is it no longer available?
" DRM Error
The time interval specified for content playback has expired."
Seems to suggest you have to complete Alice within a limited time window after you start playing it the first time. You can't come back to it the next day.
If it's a rental, they should warn us about it beforehand.

Never had that happen, and I've watched films over 2 days with no hiccups. Send them the problem and they open a trouble call - on Chrome on my pc, top right, drop down from my name to account, then NEED HELP? >Visit the FilmStruck Help Center takes you to in input form.movielocke wrote:still getting the same message:movielocke wrote:Started the svankmajor alice last night. yes, they sent me a plausible fix involving flash, I'll try it when I'm back at my desktop tonight.D50 wrote:Never had that happen, and I've watched films over 2 days with no hiccups. Re: Streaming the Criterion Collection
Can anyone comment on the quality of Filmstruck's Apple TV application? I was not overly impressed with Amazon Fire TV's app. I didn't have buffering, but it would take a good ninety seconds for the picture quality to hit HD.
I would also like to go out of my way to unnecessarily note that I'm still annoyed that I cannot differentiate between high definition and standard definition titles on the service. I like how their website basically claims 'all titles are in HD, unless they are not. Good luck!'

Re: Filmstruck
My guess would be that it's going to continue to be pretty barebones until they get the service on more platforms. I'd imagine their programming team is 100% focused on applications for other streaming devices which means we could be waiting a while until the actual interface improves. Even though adding whether a title is HD or SD in the description sounds like a very easy fix to me.

Re: Filmstruck
Every title they distribute on Filmstruck should be HD only. I'm not interested in watching anything in SD. If they only have an SD scan available, I would rather they not even release it on this channel.

Re: Filmstruck
This is totally absurd logic along the lines of not wanting dual format releases with the same form factor and price as a Blu-ray release. Most if not all (though apparently not you) subscribers to this service want as much content available to them as possible. You might as well just watch the Yule Log if all you care about is high definition content displaying on your TV at any given time. If there's no HD source available, to exclude a film when people are paying $99 a year would be a tremendous error on the part of Filmstruck.371229 wrote:Every title they distribute on Filmstruck should be HD only. Re: Filmstruck
I recently joined Filmstruck, prior to that, although I'm ashamed to admit it, I was using Hulu, for they had access to The Criterion Collection. One day, I noticed my watchlist went from 135 films to 16, I found out, their 5 year contract with Criterion had ended, I quit immediately. I did some research, and found Filmstruck, which so far, I'm really enjoying. I often get this message DRM error content, not allowing me to watch the film, even to films recently added?. Does anyone know about this DRM message, it seems to be related to a time limit on certain films, yet i have no way of reaching anyone at Filmstruck. Any ideas ?

I've gotten that message twice. Clearing the Flash player cache helped both times.

Filmstruck just launched at the start of November, replacing Hulu's Criterion Channel, which ended November 11th -- so viewing Criterion films on Hulu isn't something you have to feel sheepish about!Rickylee wrote:I recently joined Filmstruck, prior to that, although I'm ashamed to admit it, I was using Hulu, for they had access to The Criterion Collection.
