That character immediately read to me as Cliff Booth (and Tarantino has clarified in other interviews that Cliff's war experience was WWII, specifically, I believe), so I wonder if perhaps it was translated/rephrased awkwardly to make it sound like an upcoming project when it's actually not.

It's not Cliff Booth, as we see him getting a bunch of enjoyment out of Hollywood films in 1969. More than one man fought in WWII, if you (and those who theorized that Booth was somehow meant to be an older Aldo Raine) can believe it!

I didn't say it was definitely Cliff, and it's entirely possible that someone who found something "juvenile" in one decade may at the very least be able to get a bunch of enjoyment out of the same thing roughly 15 years later—if you can believe it!

My favorite part is how she indulges in the stereotypes of women being overly emotional AND overly passive-aggressive AND just overly kinda ditzy (e.g., “adult behavior”) in service of condemning someone else’s portrayal of women. My feeling is that Tarantino could hardly do worse.

I don’t know why every current release thread needs to have a Twitter drama recap, and don’t really want to contribute, but how hard is it to just not follow people that engage with this nonsense? I never see this stuff on my feed unless it’s being explicitly mocked. Find better people to follow. (I’ve also never understood the concept of getting mad online but that’s a whole other thing)

I will say, hearing Tarantino thoughtfully talk up a movie for an hour is absolutely persuasive, I went from not remembering that it exists at all to really wanting to watch Unstoppable within a matter of a lunch break today

It's not great, but is good and an interesting film for Scott to go out on. I don't have the time to listen to the podcast, but the most interesting thing about the film is that it's shot as an intense action movie, without having any action to it.

Just revisited Sergio Corbucci's hippie hating western The Specialists. There's a brief appearance of a black saloon girl called Brunhild. Funny how this small detail most likely caught Tarantino's attention and how that grew into huge storyline in Django Unchained.
