You gotta love TCM. They go from Something Wild (1961) to Pillow Talk

The shift from the daytime programming to primetime often results in some grinding of the gears. On Friday, we get King Kong (1933) followed by Places in the Heart (1984)—though I suppose you could say they both take place in the 1930s.

TCM is premiering Alberto Lattuada's 1972 film Bianco, Rosso e... (aka White Sister) early Monday morning (3:45 am ET).

Rumored to be pretty bad, I don't know if it's Italian language or in English. But at least Sophia got around to making that sexy nun movie, after passing on Visconti's version of The Nun of Monza. https://www.criterionforum.org/forum/vi ... 00#p634335

It's preceded by the no doubt worthier Black Narcissus at 2 am.

TCM’s partnering with the AFI to curate a collection of Robert Osborne’s intros and outros . I may be wrong, but this seems to be the first official step to compile and preserve intros/outros (aside from a few YT posts)—hopefully more are on the way.

It would be nice to actually use his intros and outros when broadcasting the relevant films. If the current hosts have anything noteworthy comments to offer, include them, too.

Why is that? I saw it a few years ago at Walter Reade and was really taken in by it. The soundtrack is great too and I believe has similar complications.

That's putting it mildly. The music rights are a mess. It would take a hurculean effort to get this released

Have they tried remixing it with generic, royalty-free music? No doubt there'd be an uproar, but more than a few DVD releases have done it (WKRP in Cincinnati being the most egregious one), and unless someone involved with the film was able to block that, I'm surprised it hasn't been done just to get it out there.

In the meantime, someone on Vimeo uploaded the whole thing a while back. I believe it's still there.

It did have a VHS release, but you're correct in that a DVD/Blu seems like a far-flung possibility at this point. Little Darlings is another very popular Paramount title that has suffered
a similar fate.

In TCM-related news, a teaser for the next two seasons of their podcast The Plot Thickens was just released. One is about “a woman who became Hollywood’s biggest success,” which is fairly vague—Penny Marshall? Judging by a picture of De Palma on the clip’s thumbnail and the clue of a major flop, the second is about The Bonfire of the Vanities. Hanks interview for both seasons?

Not even digital media, either, apparently. I set this to DVR via Sling, and it just... didn't. I've seen "Content Not Available" placeholders for things that TCM can't broadcast online for some reason or other, but this is the first time I've seen something that apparently did play in their online stream yet wouldn't record. For comparison, Remember My Name DVRd just fine a few weeks ago.

I Tivo'd it, but I only skimmed it. Also, it's been years since I last saw this movie, so I wouldn't be able to tell immediately if there were music cuts. It didn't strike me as looking much different, however, from the last time TCM showed it (2016, maybe?).

FYI, the first time I watched the film was on Netflix about 10 years ago, so it was clearly licensed for streaming. Again, though, I can't say if the original music was all there.

Same here. Tivo'd it without any problem. Watched some last night, and it looked fine. Very much like I remember seeing it in a theater back in the day. (It's one of those movies from my youth that I don't think I'll ever get out of my head.) Skipped around a bit, but probably wouldn't be able to tell right off if there were any music cuts, either.

Here are a couple of minutes from yesterday's showing of Looking for Mr. Goodbar on TCM. (Not totally SFW, but mild compared to much of the movie.) It looks and sounds really nice, as does the rest of the film. Ready and waiting for a BD/DVD release someday (maybe).

My god that's so much better than the VHS-quality rip I saw like a decade ago (obviously)- I never thought I'd see the film looking any clearer than that fuzzy mess- though it was rather appropriate for the film's dour tone

They just had on Night Must Fall (1937, Richard Thorpe). I've never seen it and unfortunately I just caught the last 20 minutes. I'm surprised that Louis B Mayer gave this a green light. And seeing Robert Montgomery in this kind of role, wow. I hope they re-air this. This looks excellent
