If that includes more Amazon Prime commissions I hope the new batch is better than the insomnia cures the first two compilations were.

You know, TWBB, I meant to thank you and knives for the Freaky discussion because it motivated me to check it out and happily I'm in full agreement with both of you that the film deserved more recognition. Vaughan was absolutely excellent.

I don’t like the second one better but I suspect anyone who likes the first and doesn’t need a sequel to be another horror movie will enjoy it. It’s heavily indebted to Back to the Future Part II in many regards, so if you liked the differences in that sequel compared to the original, you’ll almost certainly vibe with this one

I can't stand Back to the Future Part II, and think it's handedly the worst of the trilogy, so I wouldn't necessarily use that as a metric of confidence- but the comparison of its indebtedness isn't a bad one, Happy Death Day 2U just works a thousand times better

On the other hand it’s the only one in the series I have any fondness for.

HDD 3 might still be a thing after all, by the way. Happy Death Day 2U cost twice as much as the first and made only half as much worldwide but it was still turning a decent profit for Universal. Both films and Freaky have reportedly had a very good run on streaming as well, and a screenplay for the third film is done.

I don’t understand how Rothe isn’t a huge star after these two movies. She needs a new agent

I like Bagdad Cafe a lot but I know there’s already an individual BD, does anyone have thoughts on the other two films in this set?

Weirdly enough, I’ve been binge watching old episodes of Siskel and Ebert lately and just watched the episode reviewing Rosalie, which I’d never heard of, last night. Ebert liked it more than Siskel, but both praised the visual look of the film. I didn’t think it looked particularly interesting from the clips and their discussion though

It appears Scream Factory is releasing a 2-disc Collector's edition of Wes Craven's Cursed. Which seems to indicate that Paramount is open to licensing Miramax titles. Hope this means someone can license Police Story 3 from them.

Looks like both UHD releases of Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U will feature a new commentary from Christopher Landon and Jessica Rothe. No new supplements beyond that.

Wes Craven has some spotty films throughout his career, but this is easily the worst film he made due in no part to the chaos of the production. Countless reshoots, producer meddling, and after all that, being reedited to be PG-13. Unless there's extensive footage of the original version with the gore, Rick Baker effects, and totally different cast, this is a slog worth avoiding.

Welp, I wasn't going to double dip but now... are they separate releases or one package?

Separate unfortunately. I'm still gonna grab them but I'll wait for them to go down in price.

This is like when Soderbergh prodded me to upgrade to Blu-rays by locking his Ocean's commentaries behind the format. Only I'm probably still not upgrading my system.

Are there any other HK titles that Miramax is holding onto? I know that they have Armor of God 1+2, Project A 1+2, and Iron Monkey, but not sure of what else they have the rights to.

A couple big ones that come to mind
Wheels on Meals
Dragon Lord
Dragons Forever
Yes, Madam
Twinle Twinkle Lucky Stars

However, like the Bruce Lee titles, it is possible that they only have the streaming rights to some of these.

Scream Factory never learn. Paranoiac is horizontally stretched in comparison to the Eureka disc. No word yet on a replacement. Please don't fuck up Captain Clegg/Night Creatures.

Limited Edition, of 1500, Shout Factory store exclusive Blu-ray of Communion is up for order. You'd think an alien abduction movie starring Christopher Walken would merit a wide release, but Shout Factory is going to Shout Factory.

And a limited release of Blood of the Vampire (1958) is also up for order.

You think Arrow might do this one? (I haven't checked which studio this is from)

I really don't want to buy from them if I don't have to.

I mean, on paper it sounds like it should be great but I found it one of the most painful movie watching experiences of my life, so I don’t really think there is that wide an audience for this

I remember it being pretty lousy too, but there is a market for crap. Especially crap from the 80s.
