Tenebrae 4K
The Righteous

Giallo Essentials - Black Edition
Outside of Tenebrae, nothing else sounds all that interesting. Hopefully they announce some exciting U.S only releases and I'm hoping that ShawScope Vol 2 does get announced.
another month, another complaint from me that this label has pivoted basically exclusively into genre stuff, when they used to do a good mix of everything well. at least I'll have the Fassbinder and Chabrol sets to go through I guess...

(and more Masumura would be amazing, I watched Kisses on the old Yume Pictures DVD - good movie, desperately needs a BD release)

must be honest I've never seen one! what are these films like? yes, I know there's probably a thread somewhere answering this

if it helps, my taste for Masumura is the more satirical stuff rather than the brutal stuff - Blind Beast and Red Angel aren't for me, but I enjoyed Giants and Toys and the Black films a lot. Irezumi is a bit of an outlier between the two classes but I loved it.

Arrow put out a set of Yoshida's more "brutal" films, I guess (starting with Eros + Massacre) but there are a wealth of earlier '60s films just begging to be seen in HD. I don't know that I'd call them "satirical" so much as heady and exquisitely shot

Arrow is going to be releasing the Running Out of Time 1& 2 set in the US. According to James Flower it will be identical to the UK release.

I would assume that, since they mentioned this ahead of an official announcement, they would have done the same for Righting Wrongs. So that is likely coming from someone else.

He said that it was going to be announced very soon but I'm not seeing it on the list of hints. I just realized that there also wasn't a hint for One Armed Boxer, so maybe they do have Righting Wrongs and aren't providing any hints for any of the Fortune Star titles they have.

Instead of being a set of repackaged titles, the upcoming Giallo Essentials set is going to contain 3 brand new titles: 'The Killer Reserved Nine Seats', 'The Weapon, the Hour, the Motive', and 'Smile Before Death'.

Smile Before Death finally.. I believe it has been available only on bootleg discs until now. I know someone who paid 300 euros for Finnish ex-rental tape few years ago.

Looks like whoever designed the cover for 'The Sacred Spirit' decided to rip-off the Criterion cover for 'World on a Wire':

Fran Simoeni is going to push for a different cover to be used.

Fran Simoni tweeted "This deal will sign today and includes some mega titles I'm super proud of acquiring. Two of which on this list!

Can we extrapolate which titles it might be by figuring out which titles would potentially be under the same deal?

He also confirmed that it was the same deal he was talking about a while back where he said that Arrow had already licensed and released some titles from this company, but they were U.K. only releases. Based on that information, I'm gonna say that WB is not the company since Arrow have released a couple of WB titles in the U.S.

So… it’s got to be Paramount, right? Especially seeing as its in such close proximity to Kino finally locking them down for more titles (and seemingly not long after Criterion did the same considering Virgin Suicides?)

Bringing Out the Dead is with Disney in the UK though, so that'd be a US exclusive if you're right (De Palma's Snake Eyes is in the same boat).

I agree that it's probably Paramount, but at this point it'll be a gamble what they can and can't get for both the UK and US/Canada, especially since Kino and Criterion are also grabbing whatever they can (and Shout Factory?). And they're not the only UK label interested in getting in on the Paramount library - Eureka and BFI have licensed a handful from them in the past year or two (and Eureka at least are surely trying for more), and Indicator and 88 Films have picked up a few too.

And, as James Flower tweeted when the MoC release was announced, Arrow is releasing them in the US.

As I think I noted elsewhere ZABRISKIE POINT is available on iTunes in HD (albeit @ 720p I guess) so would be ripe for a Blu Ray release....
