I doubt that it will come from Criterion since Paramount re-issued it on blu 2 years ago, and I don't think Paramount would license out such a big money-maker

It really does depend on a case-by-case basis, i.e. the deal originally made for each film. Didn't Miramax finance the production of Pulp Fiction? That probably means whoever owns Miramax catalog will always own it unless they decide to sell it. With Dead Man and probably most if not all of the foreign productions, Miramax distributed them but did not produce them and most likely got exclusive rights for however many years or decades. For example, Jim Jarmusch owns all of his narrative films, so it was only a matter of time before the Miramax deal expired on its own.

Miramax wholly financed Pulp Fiction—it was actually their first production after the Disney deal—so there's no one else for the rights to revert to. Tarantino will eventually get the rights to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but AFAICT he had no such deal on the films he made with the Weinsteins.

The box version of Chungking Express was licensed directly from Block 2, Through the Olive Trees and the Three Colors trilogy from MK2, Europa from Trust Film, The Thin Blue Line from IFC, Dead Man from Jarmusch's company, etc. I imagine the various entities that have acquired the post-Disney Miramax catalog aren't interested in continuously shelling out more money to renew rights and eventually everything that Miramax didn't actually own will revert to the original rightsholders. That includes (probably) all of the HK titles and almost everything Miramax released before the Disney buyout.
I did an extensive study on this and wrote a long post about it here

Apologies if I missed previous mention, but the NYTimes, MoMA, and UCLA Library have Janus distributing the restored print of Sara Gómez' De cierta manera (One Way or Another) coming to BAM and UCLA.

barely a month turnaround on that. I'm sure a theatrical run is due up first before a box just yet

One Way or Another by Sara Gomez has been added to Janus website, as have Brick and Mirror and The House is Black which I could see packaged together. Hopefully the later isn't simply a supplement on the former because The House is Black is a short film that truly deserves full treatment like Night and Fog or Patriotism.

A film programmer friend has mentioned to me that apparently Janus Films now owns the rights to Sammo Hung’s Eastern Condors. Seeing their active efforts of securing Hong Kong classics, I’m not surprised.

I'm hoping that this is true and that a Criterion release is imminent. I just want to sell my copy of the Eureka Triple Pack since I don't really care for the other 2 films that were included in it that release.

Yeah, my first thought was that this will be a great way for region A folks to score the best film in the set without being forced to buy the other two. They’re not terrible but I doubt I’ll ever watch them again. Though who knows, maybe Criterion will do a Sammo box and coerce a more aggressive double dip for people who want Pedicab etc.

after Throw Down and the OUATIC box last year, am I mistaken in saying that The Heroic Trio will probably be the only Hong Kong release of 2022? not counting Boat People though

Well, I count Boat People!!! [-( Jokes aside, if The Heroic Trio (and Executioners) isn't released by December, it'd mark a weird slow-down of Hong Kong titles just as it appeared it would be ramping up. Here's hoping that not the case.

Everyone forgot Rouge. After Criterion ignored Hong Kong from their two John Woo releases through Chungking Express and then again until Police Story, it's not like Hong Kong releases were ever regularly part of their schedule.

Watching the TV series of Irma Vep and realized that Criterion still has not released Demonlover on Blu-ray. I know as soon as I buy the UK Arrow release, they’ll announce it.

trailer for the Daisies restoration

I saw a DCP of the previous Janus master years ago and thought it looked fine so I can't tell if this is a major improvement (while I'm no videophile now I was probably less discriminating then), but I imagine the bar for this to make it quickly to disc is a lot lower than it would be if Criterion had already released a blu-ray at any point in the decade(!) since that Eclipse set
