Ya know, if criterion were to separately offer (for say $5) a slipcover for Malcom X that used the 90s promotional art (I have such distinct memories of that poster on display at video rental stores because I thought it was rated X) I’d buy it and put it next to the big K release.

Now if they just released “I robot” or maybe “I tonya”, with a big Capital I, we could have KIX, a breakfast cereal that was “kid tested and mother approved”. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

It's all set-up for when they release Campion's actual masterpiece, The Portrait of a Lady, and base the cover on this:

Spike sells a shirt that would have been a much better, if they didn't want to do the 90's X

I don't know why the use of past tense though. Kix is still alive and well

Gotta feel like Ti West’s recent slasher put to the kibosh on them just using a big ol’ X

But also the Malcolm X cover is great and right in lone with the design aesthetic of the Do the Right Thing booklet

To be fair, there are probably more similarities here than between the two versions of Chungking Express

I do think they look kinda similar though! neither one look like the Mississippi Masala collage. plus this only proves that Chungking Express should've gotten the spine number reissue

Really? For some reason I assumed it was long since discontinued.

An email from Criterion posted to reddit said that the Malcolm X UHD will be a digi, while the Blu-ray will be in a scanavo case.

Thank god the 4k is a digi. So this is definitely the appropriate thread. Who on this forum actually loves digipaks? I always have

They suck. Though slots suck even more.

You’re probably going to find the same stats here as Reddit: a few vocal supporters of digipacks, a few vehement haters, and an ocean of silent voices who don’t really care. I don’t think slots are controversial though, unless you’re a masochist who gets at rush risking your discs getting destroyed with glue or scratched each time you remove them

I’m part of the silent majority that has thousands of CDs, DVDs and BluRays that came packed in slots and not a one damaged.

Before the recent UHD jump, I hadn't experienced any damage from slots that resulted in the disc's playability either, but that doesn't mean it's a controversial packaging with a majority preferring slots to secure casing. I've never heard a 'Slots, Love 'Em!' 'No way, F*** Slots!' argument repeated time and time again, but maybe I've been looking in the wrong places

I like slot presentations as long as they're on the logical side (think Bergman or Fellini, not WKW) and I basically live for the incredible bitching on the other forum about Arrow's Shawscope sets.

the tricker ones are the ones like the Universal UHD sets or Varda, they're nice and sensical but they do have slightly more issues

I love em too! They are prettier and I love the tactile feel of paper. And they add variety to the lineup - I'm not one who cares to have everything in uniform packaging. I kept mine all pristine so I have no gripes about dogeared corners and the like.

Edit: I can only remember one Criterion digipak arriving damaged - that was Picnic at Hanging Rock, where the plastic disc holder was chipped and cracked. I've had plenty of cracked Scanavo cases over the years.
