Jean-Claude Van Damme's Sudden Death is the next title to receive a 4K UHD release.

That's a decent little action film with some fine scenery chewing by Powers Boothe and that memorable JCVD kitchen fight with one of the terrorists dressed up in a mascot costume. Is that a Universal license?

Yep, Universal. Peter Hyams is a perpetually underrated filmmaker with a unique aesthetic. A very talented DP as well who is responsible for lensing all of his features regardless of what the credits read
I actually saw this on a very fun double bill with Slap Shot, another Universal film that revolves around hockey

I got dragged to a lot of shitty van Damme movies while I was in high school and I have to say that is by far the best one and one I'll unashamedly pick up.

There's quite a bit of stuff in Slap Shot that makes me cringe - for better or worse, it really does capture the spirit of "locker room talk" without worrying about how offensive it may be - but I love Paul Newman in it. It's not his most impressive performance, but it may be his most charismatic one.

Fantastic script by Nancy Dowd who seems to have disappeared after the mid 1980s.hearthesilence wrote: Mon Jan 16, 2023 5:36 am There's quite a bit of stuff in Slap Shot that makes me cringe - for better or worse, it really does capture the spirit of "locker room talk" without worrying about how offensive it may be - but I love Paul Newman in it. Hallelujah Trail appears to be a big upgrade over the Olive, which itself almost looks worse than the MGM DVD.

That's one of the biggest improvements I've ever seen. And the Olive BD was from 2018!

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
The 4K job on The Usual Suspects is stunning. I haven’t seen the film in a long time and remember liking it a lot and pouring through the extras on the MGM DVD, purchased at maybe the same price but for different value in the marketplace now obviously. I’m sure it was Borders or On Cue.

Those stills look vivid and luscious! As much as I love HHH's work, I'm glad that I waited all this time to see the film. Hopefully I can experience this restoration on the big screen or at least on UHD or Blu-ray in the near future.criterionsnob wrote: Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:45 pm Some stills from the Millennium Mambo restoration appear at the bottom of this page, with a poster and press kit.

they went on to say that they have 3 more 2000s titles from the Paramount deal, two of which are UHDs, and all three titles have never been released on Bluray in the US. any ideas, anyone? Match Point and Margot at the Wedding would be choice picks!Coming April 11th!
Man on the Train (2002)

Unless I'm missing something, wouldn't Bringing Out the Dead count as a 90s films since it came out in 1999?

Yeah, I must've ignored the decade qualifier because I just want someone to bring out the dead masterpiece that badly

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
it's not Bringing Out the Dead anyway. Kino may release that on BD (they have 1x new to BD from the 90s) but it won't be a UHD, as they've stated the 90s Paramount UHD they have remaining to announce already had a Bluray release. which means Good Burger is more of a possibility than the Scorcese!
I wouldn't be shocked if Arrow ended up doing Bringing Out the Dead - Criterion seem to have their hands full with Scorcese's WB titles, and for some reason I see BOTD as one Arrow would do. they have been licensing from Paramount lately...
