I didn't realize Maltese Falcon was ever paired with Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Re: Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
I don't think there's any real historical tradition of these films being paired. They were released on Blu-ray on the same day more than ten years ago, but the special edition DVDs were released three years apart, and that edition of Sierra Madre was in also in a box set with Yankee Doodle Dandy and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Warner has also paired Maltese and Sierra Madre in one of their double feature bargain sets, a la Casablanca and The African Queen. It seems more of a "Hey, here's two popular Bogart movies we can market" than anything else.

Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
They were paired on one of those Warner Bros. Double Feature bargain bin DVDs at some point, but so were Hotel For Dogs and Best In Show.
EDIT: Oh, Feego just said that, but my example is still funny.

Speaking of which, where is the Blu-ray of Lassie Come Home? -- Not just a family favorite but a legitimately excellent work of art. Beautiful Technicolor photography, great performances, the works.

International listings for 4K releases of Rio Bravo and East of Eden are being found, so I would expect it to be announced in the U.S. soon.

I was gonna praise WB for making a box like this filled with non-exclusives, then I saw where they buried the part that Rio Bravo is a box exclusive. that's unforgivable

Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
It will be announced as a stand-alone soon, I’m sure. The restoration is premiering at the TCM Film Festival in April, and they wouldn’t dare let Father’s Day pass without having a nice Collector’s Edition UHD available for gifting.
EDIT: Oops, didn’t see that this box is not out until September. Well, maybe we’ll get Rio Bravo (and East of Eden) for Christmas.
Also worth noting that this is an announcement for the UK release, so maybe release plans are different for the US

Re: Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
International listings have been found for separate releases of Rio Bravo and East of Eden, so it's only a matter of time before we see the listings appear stateside. I think that this is a fine starter set for people who are starting their 4K collection but it's of an disappointing set for me since I already have the standalone releases for the films that I want and have no interest in owning IT, A Star is Born, and Elvis (also why not add Dune or Blade Runner 2049 instead of any of these titles?) It's also disappointing that the only extras included are commentaries for most of the films.
Edit: There are also going to release 3 smaller separate boxsets for each era:

On The Maltese Falcon, I’m hoping they include HD supplements of their old multi-disc DVD — the 1931 film version and Satan Met a Lady.

Re: Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
I still have the UK BD steelbook of Falcon which has one of the theatrical posters as its' design. I'll get the regular UHD in a sale and stick it in the old steelbook. I'm glad Rio Bravo is sold individually at least abroad as I prefer getting standalone discs for the Hawks, the Ray and the Welles.

Ugh, does this mean Rebel without a Cause is going to be a steelbook too?
How long does it usually take for these to get replaced with regular packaging?

it's weird to me that in celebrating the anniversary of Warner Bros, they are including lots of films made by other studios (notably M-G-M) that were only much later swallowed up by Warners. a bit like Disney slappying their Magic Kingdom logo on a bunch of 1950s Fox films for Disney+.

Re: Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
Images for the non-steelbook versions have already been released/found, so I think all of the steelbook releases this round are just exclusives for those places that have them (e.g. Best Buy, Zaavi), and there will be standard editions at other retailers.ianthemovie wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 5:24 pmUgh, does this mean Rebel without a Cause is going to be a steelbook too?

Just to avoid confusion, these are Blu-ray box sets, not the UHD 30-film set (which, from a post above, looks like it’s going to be broken up into 3 separately available box sets).yoloswegmaster wrote:The 100 film boxset looks to be split into 4 different collections

I like the company's organizational skills in placing the first LOTR in one box and the second two in another, though to be fair, only Fellowship really stresses the "adventure" portion of the journey (and that's why it's handily the best)

I'd buy the divisive "two and a half hotdogs" one from the 70s as a standalone.agnamaracs wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 12:30 amI do not want to buy this, but those badges look awesome.

Re: Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD
I'm more interested in knowing if all the titles included are being sourced from new restorations, especially with Boogie Nights and Seven being included in the set.
I also went back to the Deadline article from December and I noticed that they said that WB were planning on releasing a dozen titles on UHD for the first this year. We know that they are releasing the first 4 Superman films (with both cuts of Superman II included), The Exorcist, Enter the Dragon, The Maltese Falcon, Cool Hand Luke, Rebel Without a Cause, Rio Bravo, and East of Eden. Unless they are counting the different cuts of Superman II as 2 different titles, that means there is 1 title remaining. I'm hoping that they aren't stopping at 12 and are releasing more later on in the year.
