Re: Passages
Great in The Wire obviously, but I think he was even better on Bosch, a show I think is rather underrated.

Re: Passages
That's a real shock. He was also a very unorthodox version of Albert Wesker (and his clones!) in the recent Resident Evil Netflix series. Plus like almost every other great character actor of that generation, he's in the seminal HBO Oz series.

He was also the single best guest appearance on The Eric Andre Show.

Per Milestone on social media, Erik Daarstad, who helped Kent Mackenzie make The Exiles in several ways, mainly with the cinematography and extending to the editing.
A rare interview recording where he discusses the film.

Orson Welles scholar Robert Carringer. Goes without saying, his reconstruction of The Magnificent Ambersons is priceless. His research discrediting Pauline Kael's dubious argument re: Welles's authorship of Kane is definitive, but it's really unfortunate it's not better known. (Even the Smithsonian forgot about it when they published an article on the "controversy" back in 2016.)

Re: Passages
His book on the making of Citizen Kane is essential cinema reading. There’s no doubt that Orson Welles is one of the geniuses of cinema, but it gave me an appreciation and understanding of the artisans and technicians who made the film happened. It made me appreciate the endless playfulness of Kane and how he even carried it within budget limitations in Chimes at Midnight and Mr. Arkadin.hearthesilence wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 7:19 pmOrson Welles scholar Robert Carringer. Re: Passages
Leslie Hardcastle, who as the man who ran the National Film Theatre for much of its existence (1957-91), and was also the prime mover behind the Museum of the Moving Image, had an incalculable impact on film appreciation well beyond London - in fact, it's in part thanks to him that all those onstage NFT interviews that increasingly appear on assorted Blu-ray releases were recorded and archived in the first place, even if there was no intention at the time to ever publish them. I was lucky enough to meet him several times in the 1990s and 2000s, and to say that he was a character would be putting it mildly, but he was also invariably delightful company.

Re: Passages
They held a 50th anniversary reunion for the 1973 championship team last month, and Reed was too sick to attend. I figured that was a bad sign. Great competitor, just a little before my time. Clyde said that if Willis had stayed healthy the Knicks would have won more titles. Here Comes Willis is one of the heroic NBA moments. NBA Finals Game 7, and you have to go out there against Wilt Chamberlain, on one leg, a torn muscle and a heap of painkillers.
A magical time in NY sports lore with the Jets winning the 1969 Super Bowl, the Mets the 69 World Series, the Knicks cashing in at the end of the 69-70 season. All underdogs.

The funeral of the popular Italian Communist Party (PCI) leader Enrico Berlinguer in 1984... Filmmakers form part of the Guard of Honour...

Ettore Scola, Federico Fellini, Francesco Rosi, Francesco "Citto" Maselli & Michelangelo Antonioni. One of the last of the great golden generation of postwar Italian directors has passed with the demise of Maselli at the age of 92 in Rome...

Paolo Taviani was still alive last time I checked.

Re: Passages
That's fair, Michael, thanks!... I actually drove him around at a film festival once... And indeed the Taviani brothers were also part of that Guard of Honour but are not in the photo...
And the more accurate description of the impact of Maselli's passing so...In quel giugno 1984 l’attore (Mastroianni) prese parte al picchetto d’onore ai funerali del leader comunista, insieme a Fellini, Scola, Rosi, Antonioni, Maselli, Pontecorvo i Taviani, Carla Gravina e Monica Vitti.
Con Citto Maselli scompare uno degli ultimi esponenti di quel cinema italiano che ha fatto la Storia.

Editor Jadwiga Zajiček, at 98. Her massive filmography spanned documentary and fiction and includes repeated collaborations with the unlikely double act of Polish cinema master Andrzej Munk (1950s, early 60s) and comedy specialist Juliusz Machulski (1990s, early 00s).
