Gregg Araki boxset might be coming? I had assumed The Living End would be in it but it looks to be the teenage apocalypse trilogy

Anybody heard any scuttlebutt about this Araki guy? I can’t be sure.

On The Town. Top Ten, baby. With a bullet! Seriously though... I think I was just possessed there for a brief moment and wrote a twbb-style sentence

Wouldn’t a Gregg Araki box set be something Arrow would do rather than Criterion? Either way I’d love a set of all his 90’s films.

I honestly could have sworn that I saw something about Altered Innocence or some other VinSyn partner having The Doom Generation just a couple days ago but I could be crazy.

Honestly, it makes the most sense and I hope they do. VS or Arrow would give it the best treatment

I swear I saw this too! Earlier today I tried to find where I might have seen it on Twitter, but I couldn't.

Yes but they’ve been winding down their physical media output and have begun licensing their titles out (for example Chan is Missing to Criterion) so there’s likely little chance of them issuing Doom Generation on hone video themselves.

Not true - they just released Suzhou River, for example.

It is, in fact, true that they are releasing less physical media and licensing titles out. Objectively. It was discussed up thread as well.

I would genuinely love for this page to be over, and for this director (who I personally feel fits more at strand or vinegar syndrome) to not be released by criterion, as this discussion has already been more than enough

Suzhou River should've been a Criterion if anything, but it wasn't, and good for Strand actually releasing it

Spoiler
The Doom Generation is a more impressive and important movie than Suzhou River :-"

I've never seen Suzhou River, but it's scarce availability speaks to that. I loathe Araki, to be totally honest. yes the music is good, but that doesn't make for a good movie!!!

happy for fans who will see a release for sure. I just know if it's on criterion, the discussion around it will be more annoying. if it's Arrow or VS I can generally avoid it more

I've only seen three of his films - I hated one and loved two, but it seems like he's a filmmaker who thrives when he allows his films' authentic tonal audacity to inform its text rather than force significance from an inorganic place

I certainly didn't expect to get the equivalent of the Five Tall Tales Indicator set upgraded to UHD.

Right? And as their first non-upgrade 4k box, too.

That is one hell of a month. One False Move, yeah! But the real surprise is the Boetticher westerns getting upgraded, and I'm getting After Hours as well. July's lineup is the best announcement from Criterion for this year so far.

Hopefully The Princess Bride is actually coming on UHD and isn't going to remain OOP... just offloaded my blu-ray

There have been 7 Scorsese films or docs released since 2018 with 4 coming last two years. I think this trend will likely continue as he is one that would love have as many of films with Criterion as possible. I would guess that films that have a sooner than later chance are Mean Streets, Who's That Knocking at My Door, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and The King of Comedy (if they can somehow get Disney to license to them). I could see them releasing The Age of Innocence in UHD.

I personally hope that they upgrade The Last Temptation of Christ to 4K before they get to The Age of Innocence or The Irishman, especially since the transfer for it is quite outdated now. Another Scorsese title I could see them releasing on 4K is Cape Fear.
