After looking into their new partner label, I realized The Film Deck holds ‘The Devil, Probably’ meaning that there’s a good chance there will be a Bresson film released under the Vinegar Syndrome site. I don’t know if I should be terrified or be laughing hysterically
Commentary track with The Hysteria Continues! would be an incredible easter egg, honestly.
I think adding The Film Desk to the roster was a wise decision that'll class up the place, like Coach's Cheers after Sam Malone stepped in (or perhaps, in this case, Rebecca Howe). Actually, for this instance, The Film Desk will be portrayed by Lilith Sternin.
Meanwhile, our two Secret Surprise UHDs are shaping up nicely, each featuring multiple cuts and an abundance of extras. Their cumulative kill counts might also be a new record!
These are Body Count 4K and The Last Slumber Party 4K. Take a screenshot
The Film Desk is a great addition to the partner label line up. It looks like they have the recent restoration of Michael Roemer's Vengeance is Mine as well as a big chunk of Philippe Garrel's catalogue, so hopefully a few of those make their way onto disc. Preferably the ones that re:voir haven't released yet.

Pretty sure Vengeance is next considering Justin LaLiberty posted a Letterboxd review a bit ago and considering he often reviews films from partner labels at least a month before they’re announced, there’s a strong possibility it’s next. Thank you for reading.
Weird question: today I received a recent VS order that included a copy of Walking the Edge. The order was complete, but in addition to my copy of Walking the Edge, inside the box was also an additional copy of the Walking the Edge disc in a paper sleeve. Any idea what that's about? I did a cursory search and couldn't find anything about a disc recall, and the two discs themselves appear to be identical.
We have noticed a dropped frame at 07:34 on the Fun City Editions release of WALKING THE EDGE. This was an issue inherent in the authoring process and, as such, we will be issuing replacement discs. This will also allow us to correct the missing English SDH track. If you have already purchased WALKING THE EDGE, you don't need to do anything. Replacement discs will automatically ship once they arrive. We appreciate your understanding and patience. Thank you!

Vinegar Syndrome has announced that there'll be a VSL box set with 4 films focusing on Euro-horror, any ideas. Personally I think it would be a German Krimi set considering their outputs and that a lot of them fit with the aesthetic vibes of the previous films released, maybe the later Mabuse films or something like that specifically. Thank you for reading.
I imagine it'll be 40s, 50s or 60s European horror. 70s and up would probably be in their usual wheelhouse, and VSL is specifically for films off their usual beaten path. Maybe the set could contain The White Reindeer?

That's a good theory, however The White Reindeer when compared to the other VSL titles doesn't really match the aesthetic of the other more campy titles and if anything seems more fit for a Deaf Crocodile release. Also, VSL has appeared to focus on films with very limited home markets, remember only Flesh and Fantasy had even a bit of an official release and that was probably the most popular of the titles, so while there's benefit in making a Region A release, it would just seem odd in comparison. Lastly, a point I imagine will be corrected immediately, there doesn't appear to be that many films that could fit with The White Reindeer in a box set, especially considering that TWR is already a fairly well-known title, maybe putting it with other Scandinavian horror films is the best bet but there's not that many to even begin with, let alone ones that could stack up with TWR which may I point out seems like more of a standalone release. Sorry got a bit caught up, have a good day and thank you for reading.
I don't think the three VSL titles released so far have any particular thematic glue; certainly not campiness, because Flesh and Fantasy is not campy at all.
Oh sorry, hadn't watched it yet so I assumed it would be at least a bit campy based off the trailer, but my point was that The White Reindeer doesn't appear to have that similar vibe of the other films which felt more horror related than as the feminist character study TWR is, plus again, seems more fit for a standalone than in a set with other films. Thank you for reading.
If it's what I think it is, we're talking "70s and up". And it is indeed off their usual beaten path, but not to such an extreme extent that people will go "you what?"
The question being what would follow that idea, considering Goodbye 20th Century was a very obscure Macedonian that verges to being as arthouse as Jodorowsky. Wouldn't the 60s be a more accurate guess considering that it was practically the golden age for Foreign Cinema, not that there weren't any good ones after, just that's when the industry thrived the most. Also, the 60s in the foreign held a lot of titles that seem ripe for Syndrome from the aforementioned Krimi films to some of the subversive Polish masterworks to the many, many Soviet films. So it just seems the best contender in my eyes. Thank you for reading.
I'm not guessing. The European box set that I know for a fact they've got in production is 70s and later.
True, it might not be what they're announcing later this month, but there's a pretty strong chance that it is, given that their advance description fits it like a perfectly-tailored glove.
I know this seems like prolonging but may I ask what exactly made you think it's gonna be 70s and beyond since the only clue given is that it's their "first foray into this particular breed of out-there Euro cinema. We hope you like it because there's plenty more where that came from."? Thank you for reading.
As I said, this isn't a guess, and in fact I'm increasingly certain that this is indeed the project that I've been thinking of, because the clear implication of that wording is "we're putting this inaugural release out to see how well it does, and if you like it there'll be more".
If Michael is actually involved with the box set, it'll probably wind up being something that's very much worth owning, and even his tenuous knowledge of what it might be is enough to make me a little excited.
For future Labs releases outside of Universal horror films, I wonder if they would release some of those Karl May adaptations from the 60s. I've long been curious about those films - and like the krimis, they fit the Lab's "mission statement". I'd also like to see some Italian peplum films; another genre I've long been curious about but which is essentially ignored in the US marketplace, at least by Vinegar.
SeizureMilk wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 3:24 pmIf you are Michael Brooke, have you contributed anything to this box set or have you heard this from a colleague. Thank you for reading.
Mr. Michael, considering that you know what the set is, may I ask if this is Eastern or Western European, or would that be too much? Thank you for reading.
