Cowboys and Aliens (2011) is being released on UHD. how is this even justifiable?

Same reason It’s Pat is on Blu-Ray, certain obligations in their contracts have to be met or else other films of quality won’t be released or go OOP because the didn’t fulfill their terms and agreements. Plus since this is a major release, it can help fund releases of other more obscure films since they probably don’t pull much profit in. Also at least some people like Cowboys and Aliens and would like to see it in 4K compared to something like Rawhead Rex.

The Best of Times

Yay! I'm not expecting a lot of extras for this little gem, but it would be cool to hear a few words from Shelton, Spottiswoode or Russell about it. I've always felt this was one of Robin Williams' best and most overlooked performances. His manic comic energy is channeled wonderfully into the character, rather than exploding the character and going full Robin Williams. The tremendous cast of character actors in small roles (M. Emmet Walsh, Dub Taylor, Margaret Whitton, Donald Moffat, Kathleen Freeman, and more) bring a lot of flavor as well.

It was also one of the first editing gigs for film scholar and Sam Peckinpah megafan Paul Seydor, who does commentaries on virtually every Peckinpah release

He went on to edit nearly all of Ron Shelton's films. Roger Spottiswoode also did some editing on Peckinpah's The Getaway, and a couple of Peckinpah regulars (R.G. Armstrong and Dub Taylor) show up in small roles in The Best Of Times.

It’s an incredible film, and I’m very tempted to update my Blu. Ritchie is one of the great underrated auteurs of the New Hollywood era, and it was written by the same genius behind 2 of my favorite John Frankenheimer films

Charles Taylor’s book Opening Wednesday at a Theater or Drive-in Near You has an interesting analysis of it. He programmed a series at the Hammer that was devoted to the titles in said book, and that’s how I first encountered it. I’d love to hear him do a commentary
